Strengths: shipped quickly

Weaknesses: The product did not pass Microsofts validation test.

Summary: This is not acceptable. i will not accept software that is not validated by the manufacturer. with this copy of Windows XP you cannot receive updates etc. this product should not be sold.

Strengths: Very stable. Fast reboot.

Weaknesses: However, my reboot is not as fast as other reboots I have seen on other pc's. I think it may be my computer.

Summary: I use this product on my laptop and my desktop pc at home. I have found it to be very stable on both with less times rebooting. Also, I have notice that my overall pc performance is faster.

Strengths: Reasonably priced, fast shipping, a powerful and versatile tool.

Weaknesses: None that I can think of. Windows XP Professional is one outstanding operating system.

Summary: Windows XP Professional is a versatile tool to use in today's world or working with computers. It is straight forward and easy to use. It is built on NT technology, but incorporated back into the realm of a Windows Desktop environment. I have found Windows XP to be a much better product than I originally antipipated when XP was first released. I am very happy with XP, and do not see myself using any other OS for quite some time.

Strengths: The O.S. itself works quite well for small businesses that do not have any other office software. It does have a few additional programs built in that will aid in uploading personal web pages, as well.

Weaknesses: Too many added files that not all people would need, therefore I would recommend XP Home Edition Instead.

Summary: I would also like to try and help clarify some of the questions that some store front sellers are encountering in regards to the XP Pro CD that is primarily intended to be installed on a DELL sytem. I personally build computers part-time and I happen to have a full version of the above mentioned installation CD. I have had no problems in installing this O.S. onto a custom built pc that is definitely not a DELL. This CD states that it is a reinstallation CD. It also states that it is supposed to be only for reinstallation of the operating system on a DELL. It also states that it is not for reinstallation of programs or drivers. However, as I stated previously, I have this version installed on a non-DELL system, that I built myself. The only problem that I can recall was I had to insert the disc a second time so that I could enter the COA key. Since then I have added, at different times, the service pack 1 software and the service pack 2 software. If you do not have these on disc, you can download them for free, directly from Microsoft Corporation or you can go onto their website and order a free copy, on CD to be sent to you at no charge. As far as I am aware, Microsoft will only send out the SP2 disc at this time and I believe that you have to be a US resident to get if for free but do not quote me on that statement.

Strengths: Better looking than previous versions of Windows, faster boot time than Windows 2000, Nice multi-user support.

Weaknesses: Slower than Windows 98, default install is a gaping security wound, very sensitive to hardware glitches. Not very good with cutting edge hardware. Very poor network performance with older Windows.

Summary: The boot time is quite fast compared to Windows 2000 on the same machine. It boots slightly slower than Windows 98.It looks nicer, and has better anti-aliased fonts than previous Windows. The dialog for login is nice, with a click based user selection rather than typing in.Overall, the interface is as fast as Windows 2000, slower than Windows 98, but with more options and eyecandy.Unless you have a hardware firewall, you will need to install unplugged from the internet. Otherwise, a worm/virus will find its way on before it is even done installing, as it did with me. Once installed, you can activate the built-in firewall, and then plug in and run Windows Update safely.Windows XP carries on and intensifies the NT/2000 tradition of being fickle with hardware. Quick processor/motherboard errors and power glitches, where Windows 98 and unix-based OSes you would not notice, or give you a recoverable blue-screen, XP will reboot the machine without warning. Really new hardware, such as SATA harddrives, tend to lead to unstable results. If you have a home network, with all XP machines, networking is as you would expect. But, if you have XP machines and older Windows machines or Samba machines, getting the computers to talk to eachother is an excercise in futility. While this version works fairly good for a recent merger of the Windows NT and Windows 98 paradigms, if you're looking to upgrade, I'd wait till the next Windows comes out, in 2006 or so, when hopefully all the wrinkles are ironed out. You should upgrade if:-You are running Windows 95-You are running Windows NT-You have a modern system running Windows 95 or NT You should not upgrade if:-You are running Windows 98/2000-You have an old system-You like/need old Windows programs/DOS games

Weaknesses: Doesn't work that great on machines with anemic processors and small amounts of ram.

Summary: If you have a new generation machine get it you won't be disappointed. If you want to use old hardware and software chances are you will be disappointed. If you have the latter money is better spent on something other than an o.s.

Strengths: new look, stable, and very appealing

Weaknesses: very compatible with drivers

Summary: you know, i like how people mock microsoft, and yet, they use there products still. tell me how can someone say "oh, i hate it, i am never going to use it again" and yet they do. Do you know why its so expensive? because that's the only whack microsoft is taking at your wallet, with apple, they can sell their utilities and software for cheap (even though its not) because theyre getting 100% of the money. (besides how much goes to the reseller) and its so compatible because they know what is going in it, how hard is it to make software for an apple computer, when you make the WHOLE thing, the drivers, the software, everything. With microsoft, its like shooting a shot gun, you make the basis, and the companies follow it, if the companies dont follow it, then the software wont work, how is that microsofts fault? its not, and im getting mad at people saying it sucks. Apple's prices are high for obvious reasons, only 10% of the computing world uses it. Why does the Microsoft family have so many secuirty alerts/threats? because the other ~90% (including linux and others, but I dont know the numbers) uses it in the computing world. NOTHING IS PERFECT, SUCK IT UP. and people are talking like they could make a better operating system, all i have to say, is GO DO IT THEN, or else quit mocking microsoft.

Strengths: runs most software written for Windows operating systems

Weaknesses: cluttered interface, unintuitive, unstable, insecure, overpriced

Summary: If you are absolutely required to run Windows, and you are unable to acquire a copy of Windows 2000, purchase Windows XP professional. Be very careful to stay up to date with patches, and use alternative software where possible to maximize security and reliability. It is absolutely unsuitable for server use.

Strengths: it works just fine, both 32-bit versions. it recognizes all my devices, old and new, scsi and ide. runs smooth. best os i have used, the only one i'm using currently. why not xp?

Weaknesses: i am no industry pro, hence i cannot see any. while i do see the need for a perfect os, i understand it doesn't exist, otherwise why is not everybody using that perfect os, why this mumbo-jumbo?

Summary: i do not buy software while it is still available for free. over the past 10 years i have installed on my home pc's win 3.1, 95, 98, nt, me, 2000, mandrake 9, xp home, xp pro. none of them i have purchased. i was just eager for better, faster, crispier. the faster applications are written in assembly, the rest are slow anyway (ie. photoshop 7 loads slow), even for dual p4 with tons of ram and cheetah hard drives. i like windows, stolen by bill gates or not, mainly due to the fact that drove hardware prices down, from way, way up. remember the tag price in 1990 for the up and coming gateway 2000? it was cheap at 2 g's. mac is stil up there, linux has an ugly gui, and who wants unix's command line to type with a single hand, the glass or cigarette being mandatory. i am defitely not a keyboard type of person, i want to click on links. nt was stable but hard to configure, xp is stable and easy, linux is ugly (although just as good as xp) unix is hard and mac is expensive. i'd love to put osx on pc. it appears it doesn't work that way. by absence of competitors, winxp wins. welcome to tijuana, brethern.

Weaknesses: Lack of some drivers.

Summary: I can't believe how many people criticize Windows XP in this review. It is the opposite of everything they say. Although it is very expensive, you have no choice is you want compatible software and a very stable OS.
