Summary: I highly recommend to buy this because of the following. 1.Price is reasonable. 2.High quality images will be enjoyed. 3.No expertise needed.

Strengths: Compared to other DSLR's: light weight, compact, quick and easy to use. Takes great photos and the price is hard to beat. The VR lens that this comes with is a must.

Weaknesses: If you are looking at cameras this is the way to go but I would suggest getting an additional lens.

Summary: My friend has the d40x which is what I was going to purchase. When I saw this and read about the upgrades on this camera and saw the price point, I quickly changed to this camera. It has some great features and the fact that it comes with a VR lens, this is the best way to go for an entry level prosumer cam.

Summary: This camera was bought for replace my Canon Reble Xt. It has better feature like the VR kit len and higher pixels. The disadvantage is that the material used for body construction is kind of cheap. The len also feel cheap.

Strengths: Fast focus on the 55-200 lens. Camera is relatively wuiet and easy to use for a first time SLR user. Easy to grip and hold.

Weaknesses: Only thing I don't care for is the display automatically cutting off when the camera is raised to the eye because if you tilt it at all it cuts off... I have discovered how to turn it off though!

Summary: Love it so far.. This camera seems to be a very good choice for a first time SLR buyer. The price is good for the kit and is all you need to get started. Battery charges fast and seems to hold the charge for about 400 -600 photos. Takes great shots and they pics crop down and hold form and color.

Summary: If you are used to a compact point-and-shoot and want to overcome the shortcomings of these cameras, then consider the Nikon D60.This camera is designed for newcomers to DSLRs and Nikon wants you to feel at home with this camera. The size and weight is just slightly more than a deluxe point-and-shoot with lots more options for those who want to take photography more seriously.Among the major reasons for buying this camera is its sharp pictures due to Nikon's lens technology which now includes a vibration reduction lens to keep your photos steady. The sensor cleaner is a big plus to keep those images clear. You have the option of using the camera on automatic or trying out many of Nikon's built-in options for editing your shots.There are very few negatives. If you are used to the pricing with a point-and-shoot, a DSLR camera looks like sticker shock. But when you realize all the benefits you are getting, it makes sense. Only other negative is that with more and more cameras raising the bar with mega-pixels, one wonders why Nikon couldn't have gone to a 12MP resolution in the D60. But for most of us, 10MP should be fine.All-in-all this is one great camera value. You get the lightweight small configuration of a point-and-shoot in a DSLR with all the benefits that the D60 offers.

Strengths: Very easy to use. Great for entry level SLR user. User friendly. The vibration reduction lens is a plus. Produce great looking photos.

Weaknesses: A little over price. No view through LCD

Summary: After my first compact digital camera stop working, I am ready for my first SLR camera. The Nikon D60 is small and easy to handle. I was able to learn all the features in minutes. I especially like the vibration reduction feature, It helped me create excellent quality images. Overall, Nikon D60 is a great camera for first time SLR buyer. It may not be perfect, but it's close.

Summary: I bought this camera to back up my Nikon d300. I used the d60 with the 18-55vr kit lens and the d300 with the 70-300vr when I have some assignments. I don't miss any shot with this setup. When traveling, I just use the d60 with the kit lens. The d60 kit is good in low-light and indoors. ISO auto goes up to 1600 without any noticeable noise with the help of the 18-55vr lens. It has eye-sensor near the view finder to turn off automatically when you eye near the view finder. The information in the lcd automatically rotates when you turn the camera vertically.

Strengths: Very light weightLots of editing functions within camera

Weaknesses: No way to view live image in LCD

Summary: Very small very light camera body, but with the addition of the lens, you get a camera with the center of gravity toward the from of the lens. The LCD is very large and bright. Some of the more used functions (F-stop) seem to be only accessible from the menu system, but there appears to be a say to custom tailor a "My Menu" of commonly used menu functions. Overall a very good camera.

Weaknesses: - a bit overpriced- only supports certain autofocus lenses- no top display for settings- no Live View

Summary: After having used a high-end SLR-like digital camera for the past 3 years, I decided it was time to invest in a real DSLR. After much research and waiting, I decided to pick up the Nikon D60. I bought the body with the 18-55 VR kit lens. The camera was pretty easy to pick up and the user guide is pretty helpful. It looks like Nikon has resolved a lot of the shortcomings of the D40/D40x by either fixing the issues or default settings. Overall, I'm very happy with the camera. It takes very good images, especially under low-light conditions. I'm quite pleased with my investment and think the D60 is a good camera for those in the prosumer-hobbyist level of user.

Summary: This is a great entry level camera for me. I never had a DSLR but I used a d70s at work. It lacks of AF motor which limit the prime lens that can be used. However, I feel that it is ok without prime lens since I won't be doing serious photography. Currently I can not find any online retailer selling the LCD protector. Let's hope more accessories comes by. I also bought 18-200mm lens, sb-600 flash, Hoya pro1 digital filter 72mm and 52mm to make my entry level kit. Let's go out and shot some pictures
