Strengths: Takes very quick shots. Self cleaning dust is very helpful when other camera's has spots on their pictures and need clean. Amazing pictures, I love the big LED display nice and sharp and easy to use.

Weaknesses: I'm use to a smaller camera before. Its heavy compare to my old SLR camera.

Summary: Over all I would recommend this digital camera to anyone that wishes to start on beginner professional photography. This camera has alot of parts that you can buy as well to enhance picture quality even better.

Summary: This is a very nice camera by Canon, specially if you come up from XT line. Everything works the way it supposed to. After using it for a couple of days, I like it even more. If you come from 20D or 30D, their is almost no learning curve. Just unpack and off you go. The only slight disappointment I have is the number of Pixes. I was hoping Canon will come out with a 12MP sensor instead of the current 10.1MP, which is only a very small stepup from the 20, or 30D. Make it less incentive to upgrade. But this is a rather minor issue. Overall, I have to say I like it a lot.

Strengths: Great zoom, lighting fast up to 6 shots per second, very good lens with optical stabilizer, allows to shoot in low lighted areas. Many iso levels, low noise levels.

Summary: This is one of the best and most affordable camera you can get on the market right now. With 3 inches lcd, you can't miss the detail. If you want to take sport or action pictures,then this is the one to go for it. Get ready for the machine gun speed snapshots.

Summary: I upgraded from a 350d and feel the upgrade was well worth the money. Camera is much faster both with fps and autofocus. Got good service from a preicegrabber store. It takes very nice pics, at over twice the speed of my previous camera. I have only used live view once, but for macro work I feel it will make for a good improvement. I am glad it kept the 1.6X lens crop factor as it makes my long lenses even longer. For fast moving sports a 1 series is still going to give you much better auto focus speed and accuracy, but for high school or lower sports this camera will be more then adaquate.

Summary: Amazing - what else do I need to say!I was looking for my first digital SLR and looked at the Nikon D80, information on the upcoming D300, and the Canon 40d. I made the right choice for me. I used it all day today and took some amazing pictures, even on the auto mode! As I read more and learn the camera, I expect the picture quality to only go up.The construction of the camera is impressive. As an engineer, I am very interested not only in what the camera does, but how it is built. While I have not dropped it yet, it appears it could take a fall.I?ll get a UV filter to protect the lens, a larger flash card, a backup battery, and a carrying case. I am very satisfied with my investment!

Weaknesses: Comparing it to higher priced cameras, several. Comparing it to lower priced cameras, none. I wish this had 8fps or 15AF points, but you can't have your cake and eat it, too.

Summary: I just purchased this camera after deciding it was time to move up from a 10D. I can say that the 3" screen, while nothing special at first, is truly something to behold. Live view was neat, and I could see situations where that would come in handy. Overall, people need to determine what the features they need are, and purchase what accomodates those needs. This camera satisfied my needs, and I am glad I got it.

Summary: I moved up from the original 300D Digital Rebel. After four years, I felt I had learned everything I needed to move up to the xxD series. Also, I was pushing the limits of what I could do with that camera. The 40D was well worth the investment. I bought it with the kit lens, which is frankly, quite good. However, I already had the focal length covered so I sold off the kits lens. Now I've invested heavily in glass that complements the body. If you already invested in Canon glass and are not ready (financially or technically) to move up to full frame, this is the camera to get. If you are entering the DSLR realm and can afford it, this is still the camera to get. Otherwise go the Rebel route. If you are a Nikon user, then consider the D300 ($500 more).

Strengths: Great images straight out of the camera. New and improved auto focus. Larger LCD. Improved menus. Great controls. Weather sealed (very limited). Tons of bells and whistles.

Weaknesses: Live view is primitive. Low LCD resolution. No built-in wireless controller (wireless grip is extra). No HDMI/ HDTV support. Rear LCD is of no use in very bright sunlight.

Summary: Canon EOS 40D is a great camera. This camera has very solid construction and easy to use controls. Rear LCD is large and dominating most of the cameras back. The kit lenses are OK at best! If you want great, sharp images I would recommend ditching the kit lenses and going with something more upscale like EF-S 17-55mm or better yet ?L? series lenses. In order to take advantage of new center cross type sensor and to notice great improvement in auto-focus you have to use f2.8 or faster lenses. Overall image quality is very good. Images come out of the camera clean, sharp, and naturally looking. I would recommend shootiing in RAW to take advantage of 14bit colors. I would recommend this camera to anybody who is in the market for brand new CANON DSLR camera.
