Strengths: Reasonably priced, great stills and video, light-weight, intuitive controls
Weaknesses: Lack of software support
Summary: This is my first high-definition camcorder. I have found the quality of still pictures and video exceptional. It is light-weight and controls are well placed and intuitive. I have so far been quite happy with the performance. I wish the bundled software was more flexible and polished or there were other off-the-shelf software alternatives available at affordable prices. Overall, I am very satisfied with my purchase and will highly recommend this camcorder for those looking to buy a GREAT HD camcorder.

Strengths: Handles well, fits well in the hand, image stablization and sound are great
Weaknesses: Charge only through docking bay, touch screen not as easy as I'd wish
Summary: Love it! Very nice picture quality under normal lighting conditions. It?s small and travels well. We carry it around with us a lot. Overall, it handles very well. Screen seems a bit small at times when trying to use touch screen buttons. Image stabilization works pretty well and the sound quality is good. I like how it fits in the hand, the fit helps make you smooth and not show jittery movements, also easy to keep level compared to other hand cameras I've used. The battery life seems a little short with the provided battery (about 1 hour). Also, it can only be charged using the docking bay. We use this with our Sony Marine Pack SPKHCC for underwater and it?s fabulous. You can also plug it directly in to the PS3 using USB cable which is a cool way to review or show your videos and photos. I'd definitely recommend this product.

Strengths: Excellent stills video, easy menu navigation, touch screen, HDMI support, decent size Hard-drive, built-in Flash
Weaknesses: Built-in flash can be too bright, lacks software support
Summary: SONY HDR-SR7 is an EXCELLENT light-weight high-definition camcorder which takes GREAT outdoor and indoor pictures and video. It is by far the best in its class of camcorders and is equipped with decent 60GB hard-drive, easier to navigate menu via the touch screen, HDMI support in addition to the typical S-video, component video outputs. Built-in mic works GREAT. However, built-in flash is very strong and not suitable for all lighting conditions. Price has become more affordable in recent weeks. I like the camera and will highly recommend to those looking for an easy-to-use, light-weight, hi-def camcorder. SONY is the king in my opinion!

Strengths: Stunning HD quality video, Ease of Use, Reasonable Price
Weaknesses: Limited software support on PC side
Summary: This is my first HD camcorder which I purchased recently at a very GOOD price online. It is very light piece of hardware that will not cause you any wrist pain while carrying around. The quality of the video and stills is stunning. Outdoor stills and video is exceptional. However, indoor video under normal lighting is average for a digital HD camcorder. The touch screen is easy to use. Manual focus works great. I mostly use it with a MAC where iMovie handles the video effortlessly. SONY should consider getting out of software business to make their products more successful after all they are known as a gadget/hardware company and not for software. Lack of software support on the PC/Windows side will limit this camcorder's market potential. Overall, I like the camera very much and highly recommend for those using MACs.

Strengths: Hi-Def, HDD, Being Sony, Compactness, Hi-Res Still Images
Weaknesses: Editing
Summary: I bought this camcorder hoping there will be good softwares for editing AVCHD codec format. But there is still not one yet. You have to write the videos directly to the medias. This can be annoying. But camcorder features are good except that you cannot capture still images during playback and you can capture only three during recording.

Summary: HD is always great. One can really tell the difference between SD and HD. The only concern is with the format war between Blue Ray vs. HD. Hope Blu-ray wins. Sony picture is outstanding.

Strengths: The sony handycam is very easy to use. Anyone, whether an experienced photographer or an amateaur, with these simple instructions, they will have no problems using the handycam like a professional.
Weaknesses: The only weakness that I see is that the battery does not last for lots of hours of recording, so make sure that you purchase a longer lasting battery.
Summary: This Sony Handycam is a great digital camcorder. The quality is outstanding; not just the movies, but also the still pictures. It is very easy to use and if you wish to add different lenses or speciality filters, those are very easy to attach. If you wish to be able to play the recordings onto a HDTV, go online and purchase a Midi HDMI Cable as the cable does not come with it. All other cables are included. I highly recommend the Sony Handycam HDR SR7 Camcorder. If high quality is what you are looking for, you can't find it any better than this camcorder.

Strengths: Large hard drive eliminates need to change tapes/dvds. Great HD video quality. Compact. Lightweight. Easy on the eyes. Touch screen control eliminates hard button clutter.
Weaknesses: Touch control doesn't register sometimes. Stability control not as good as I had hoped. Lack of USB port on the unit itself (on dock). Still image quality is decent but not true 6.1MP.
Summary: Overall the HDR-SR7 is a very good HD camcorder. It's got a good feature set and is easy to use. It's weight and size is perfect since its not too heavy nor does it feel like flimsy plastic. The battery lasts only about an hour but an extended battery will fix that problem. The included software is very complete but performs slowly and crashes needlessly.

Strengths: Lightweight, gorgeous photo and video, HDMI output, surround sound, shoots widescreen format photos, raw HD files play natively on Playstation 3, touch screen LCD, HDD or Memory Stick recording.
Weaknesses: Price is a little steep compared to its smaller sibling (SR5), but if you really want a single unit that does SD video, HD video and high quality still photos, it's worth the price.
Summary: Let me start by saying that I am an electronics geek. I love gadgets, I build my own PCs and I stay up on all the latest gadgetry and technologies. So this was not a spur of the moment decision for me. I did months of research, reading, trips to stores to hold cameras, and I built lists of pros and cons before settling on a model to buy.I had never had much use for a video camera until this year (first child). But I have spent half my life doing photography, so cameras are something I understand and I take pride in having one that does everything I want to do.So, I'll cut to the chase: I love this camera. It simply feels "right" in my hand (I'm right-handed). All the important knobs/buttons are accessible by the right thumb or index finger while the camera is in operation. But every functional button is also duplicated on the touch screen LCD, so you can use your left hand to perform functions while you're staring at the image on-screen.You can switch from recording video to taking still shots on-the-fly with either hand. But even better is that you can take up to 3 still shots of your subject WHILE recording video. You can control the zoom with both a right-handed toggle button or with touch screen controls on the LCD, but they behave slightly differently. The right-hand zoom button can zoom very quickly in and out for quick adjustments before you start shooting. The harder you press the button the faster the zoom. The LCD controls, however, are best for fine-tuning while you're recording. The zoom moves slowly and smoothly - very professional looking during playback. You can also choose to use only the Hard Drive for media storage or you can use a combination of HDD and Memory Stick. In my case, I use the 60GB strictly for video, and I use a 4GB Memory Stick for still photos. The camera automatically stores them separately in this configuration, but changing the storage settings is quite simple. The included software package is capable, but not overly advanced. You won't be making a music video or commercial parody with it - you should invest in a good video editing program for that (I use Sony Vegas). The included suite works on Vista (in case that is a consideration) and automatically detects when the camera is connected and displays all the new photos and videos taken since the last "download". You can pick and choose to import them all or just some. It will automatically place the new files in a dated folder.Once the content is downloaded to the PC, the media manager application launches and displays all the new content in a window. From here you can do some basic manipulation (sizing, cropping, etc. for photos; clipping and cutting for videos). You can export videos to MPEG-2 for everyday compatibility and burn DVDs, or you can simply export the raw HD files to watch on a Blu-Ray player or Playstation 3.Finally, a nice inclusion in the package is the docking station. Not only because it handles both battery charging and downloading media to the PC, but also because of the included "Disc Burn" button. Just set the camera on the docking station and press the Disc Burn button and it automatically starts a wizard to burn a DVD, without starting everything up yourself. So after all this, you're probably wondering how the resulting photos and videos look on-screen. One word: AMAZING. The videos are so life-like, especially when viewed on an HDTV (the built-in component and HDMI ports are good for that). My friends and family usually drop their jaw when I show them the HD video of our newborn baby. The photos are just as wonderful, with realistic colors and the option to use standard or widescreen formats (so I can use a widescreen photo of the baby as my desktop wallpaper on my 24" widescreen monitor). We haven't even turned on either of our other digital still cameras (Konica-Minolta Dimage Z6 and Sony Mavica) since we got this camcorder, because it's so much more convenient to take both stills and video with the same camera.I?ve already started getting my friends and family interested in this camera (or one of its siblings). It's one of the best tech purchases I've ever made.

Strengths: HD at it's best(for AVCHD), Optical Image Stabilization system, 5.1 Audio, no tapes!
Weaknesses: Sony Software. Battery life (included battery)
Summary: This Sony Handy cam has the best recorded picture I have seen. Even in low light it is able to focus and bring out color. The zoom also remains crystal clear with no grain. In photo mode this works as a great still cam as well at 6.1 MP. It is a great hybrid device! I love it. The picture quality is amazing, and the night shot is great for low light/no light conditions. I definitely recommend a long life battery. Although the batteries are bigger and get hot... Sometimes it is great to have!I wish I could give this 4 1/2 stars. Some of the cons knock it down a bit but this is a great cammera!

Weaknesses: The FH100 battery(u have to buy it extra) is too big.The supplied battery is just right in size but lasts too little and you have to recharge all the time
Summary: This is an awesome videocamera. When in X.P mode and with X.V Colour activated,it is a viewing experience you have not seen anywhere before. You have to have a FULL HD TV to enjoy it as it deserves to be, and do buy that mini HDMI cable, it provides much better picture than component or (of course) S-Video!! You can edit the footage using the camera options, will take some time but no need for PC. You can set a playlist including only scenes you want to play in the order you want! No grainy footage when shooting at night in x.v Colour!! Excellent nightshot mode for shooting in total darkness...
