Strengths: Sounds great. Performs component switching.
Weaknesses: None.
Summary: I installed this in my home theater with a DVD player, Wii, 92" front-projector, and an HTPC, along with a set of Polk 5.1 speakers-in-a-box. The amplifier has plenty of power for the speakers. The setup was fairly straightforward. There are a few things that could be better, such as the spring clips (which are more difficult to connect than binding posts). Also it would be useful to have auto-setup using a microphone, and HDMI support (for future components). But Onkyo sells receivers with these features at much higher cost. For under $200, the 304 is a great value.

Strengths: Easy set up, manual is clear; Excellent sound quality; and Adjustable crossover adjustment setting for speaker and subwoofer response. Tiny remote is well layout and easy to maneuver.
Weaknesses: No S-video input or output; No HDMI input; Lack of front panel AV input; a little on the heavy side, and need ample ventilation space
Summary: This is my first receiver after the last one purchased 15 years ago. This unit is easy to set up and use. Price is reasonable. Even though power rating appeared low in specification, the 5.1 speakers deliver adequate, crisp, and quality sound, particularly in digital optical mode. Both AM and FM tuner sound very decent. The three digital and component inputs meet my home theatre set up. Display was easy to read. The TX-SR304 lives up to if not exceeds the basic requirements of an entry level unit.

Strengths: gr8 entry level receiverhas all the important decoders to give you gr8 5.1 channel output..
Weaknesses: FM receiver is just a piece of wire and does not seem to get clear reception.
Summary: this is my first receiver. i am able to use my CD player, TV, DVD player, ipod, subwoofer with it without hassles.. output is excellent... the 5.1 channels helps me connect my polk audio system to achieve great surround sound. Dolby pro logic 2 lets me listen to radio and my cds with 5.1 output. i also give my laptop sound output to the receiver to receive 5.1 channel output thanks to pro logic 2 however i would like more that 65 watts output for each speaker channel.. Good Receiver for the price.
