Strengths: Good sound. Nice HDMI upconversion.
Weaknesses: Mediocre upscaling from 480i to 720p
Summary: Good overall entry level receiver. Very complicated and not meant for a novice. Denon has planned numerous add-ons including a radio frequency remote, server based ipod dock, XM radio tuner. That is good and bad since you have to pay several hundred dollars more for what should have been included with the receiver. Those 3 items are more than $750 on top of the $1000 receiver. I do like the auto room setup/calibration system. The second room remote is a complete waste since it's infrared. Who uses a second zone in the same room when the remote has to be aimed at the receiver? Give us a radiofrequency remote at a bare minimum when you offer 3 zone control.

Strengths: Clean design, solid feel, great sound features
Weaknesses: 2 HDMI inputs for a $1200 receiver? Give me a break!
Summary: Aside from the shortage of HDMI inputs, this is a nicely designed, well performing unit. It sounds great, and feels solid. But I can't get past the limit of 2 HDMI inputs. What were they thinking? Adding insult to injury the thing sports 7 S-video inputs. Did they buy a DIN socket supplier? I'm returning it, as much as I like the sound and other features; within a year I'll be out of HDMI inputs.

Strengths: very high quality overvall
Weaknesses: not find yet
Summary: I have 3 Denon (including two of these) and a Harmon Kardon receiver as well as past experience with Onkyo systems. All are nice units, but I've become a true Denon fan with the advent of the AVR-2807 and AVR-2808 receivers. These are so very configurable and powerful, look fantastic (clean with great onscreen information settings), crystal clear sound and more "real" features you need than most of the other players out there. Truly a work of art and the center of my dedicated home theater room system! Take these units very seriously - they are simply incredible.

Strengths: clear sound and power. i have polk audio RM20 speakers with a 12inch cerwin vega subwoofer, both capable of handling more than the receiver can push but they sound great for movies and music
Weaknesses: video switching through HDMI is a bit slow when switching through your sources, takes about 2 to 3 seconds. only 2 HDMI inputs.
Summary: ive gotten used to the 2-3 second delay when switching through sources. took me some time to configure and understand the menus and features but once you have it calibrated to your liking it sounds great. support for 3 subwoofers is a plus. i thought 1 sub was gonna be enough but for music 2 would fill the room better. dont have a need for the 3 zone feature. 3 quick select buttons are convenient for the not too bright on electronics house wife who like to push buttons withought knowing what theyre doing. the universal remote works great from a distance though it only works through an IR signal. hope this is all helpfull

Strengths: Well constructed, good controls, sound and functions are great. Once the setup and adjustments were correct the overall performance was excellent.
Weaknesses: The instructions do not indicate how to troubleshoot problems and also are not so precise when it comes to details of setup and adjustment.
Summary: Once the logic of the controls and setup are understood it is easy to achieve the setup one wants and the performance expected. The learning curve is at least a couple of days before one really understands the subtleties of adjustments. However, once mastering the logic one can appreciate the genius that went into this receiver. It is totally impressive.

Strengths: Crisp, clear sound reproduction. Video switching from multiple sources to a consolidated HDMI output. High-end functionality for a moderate entry-level price.
Weaknesses: Very confusing remote. Very confusing manual. Long switch times between video sources. ?Only? 2 HDMI inputs.
Summary: So far, the sound reproduction from this receiver is remarkable. I have it paired with the Infinity TSS-1200 speakers, and I?m really impressed by the immersion created during movies and HD broadcasts. Admittedly, I do think that the manual and remote are overly complicated (the remote would be made less complicated by a better manual), but I was able to figure things out on my own. I agree with a previous reviewer?s comment that this receiver would be very difficult for a novice. Also, another HDMI input or two would have been nice, especially when there are lots of other, less useful, inputs. The two HDMI inputs are immediately filled by the cable box and PS3/Blue-Ray player, so any future upgrades will require an external HDMI switcher. However, these are minor complaints considering the quality, feature set, and price point of this receiver. I highly recommend it.
