Strengths: Great picture with HD source, moderately easy setup, great remote, pretty good sound.

Weaknesses: Only average picture on broadcast or non-HD sources.

Summary: Overall, I love it. I am just not as impressed with the non-HD picture quality as I am with my (albeit larger and more expensive) Sony. For under $1000 it is really hard to beat, though!

Strengths: Very good picture. Excellent for sports.

Weaknesses: Sound is totally unsatisfactory.

Summary: It is amost unintelligible. Hooked a cheap remote system into the monitor and now the sound is very good. Tried to make the set sound satisfactory using the equalizer. Not successful.

Strengths: Great picture quality, several inputs for multiple connections to equipment, functions very well as a PC monitor

Weaknesses: The attached stand is slightly difficult to disassemble.

Summary: The television was very simple to set up and worked right out of the box. Very intuitive guide...even my non-tech savy father (70 y/o) found it really easy as he watched me walk through the process! Many technical benefits, but the easiest way to put it is it looks great in the room and displays a fantastic picture. Many inputs to easilly plug in all of your audio and video components. If you don't have newer components, it may be time to upgrade as HD movies on blue ray are amazing!Only challenge was removing the factory installed stand. There are only 4 screws, but they were tough to get to and then wouldn't completely come out. A multi-bit screwdriver has a larger barrel than what will fit into the guide holes, so find a simple, 6 inch phillips head with a magentized head to remove. Unfortunately, I didn't have one that was magnetized, so I had to hold it facing the screen to the ceiling and shake the screws once loosened to completely extract the screws from the stand.I am really impressed with the picture and sound. Price was great as it was selling for $1246 at Best Buy (plus tax) and I would have needed to borrow a friends larger vehicle to transport it home. I paid $1050 and it was delivered to my door! Highly recommend the Samsung LN40A550 if you are looking for a great picture at a decent price. One thing though...Don't let your wife tell you it will look to gaudy in your family room, because it wont! If you are considering the 46" Samsung...go for it...you can never have a bg enough screen!

Strengths: Everything about this HDTV makes it very strong and feature attractive to anyone who's looking for a new HDTV.

Weaknesses: None.

Summary: Straight out of the box this HDTV completely amazed me! I set this TV up with local OTA (over the air) digital/HD channels which took not even 2 minutes to setup. The picture is clean, clear and bright, especially in HD, WOW! I highly recommend this Samsung HDTV to anyone who is looking to make a new TV purchase.

Strengths: Excellent picture quality on HDTV, SDTV, & DVDs. Good PQ using VHS and TiVo Series2 DVR. Easy to calibrate for best picture quality. No glare screen. Great off center viewing. Elegant overall look.

Weaknesses: Sound needs improving, but can be calibrated to make sound better. Universal remote would have been nice too.

Summary: I really love this HD LCD! I was please by the picture quality right out of the box, but after reading AVS Forum on Calibrating the 550, I was able to make the picture quality even better! AVS Forum also gave settings to improve sound quality, which worked great. I have a Panasonic SCPT950 HTIB upconverter DVD player and my DVDs look awsome. "Transformers" was unreal in picture quality on my 550. The room where I have my 550 has two big patio doors on the right side, about 5 feet from the 550. With my old Sony 27" CRT anytime it was sunny out I couldn't see the picture and had to close the blinds. I never have to close the blinds with the 550, and at night, if someone turns on the table lamp, there's no refection at all in the 550. The 550 has really made watching TV much more enjoyable for me. Oh, my wife likes it too!

Summary: Just about impossible to beat. Spec per spec this one is an outstanding value. Shopped around and was actually looking at last years model unitl I found this for the same price!

Strengths: High contrast ratio, 1080p, Dark blacks and vibrant colors.

Weaknesses: None really, but I wish it would automatically switch inputs when a new signal is found.

Summary: I got this tv for $1099 at frys a week ago and let me tell you that it was worth every penny. My last TV was a 37 in. Westinghouse, and this Samsung blows that one completely out of the water. The blacks are really dark and the colors are vibrant. I was blown away with how good my Xbox 360 and my PS3 looked after I hooked them up to this tv. If you can get this TV for a decent price, don't think about it, JUST BUY IT!!!!!

Strengths: SEEMS EASY ENOUGH TO PROGRAM AND TO SET UP. NICE TV FOR THE PRICE.

Weaknesses: I HAVEN'T FOUND ANY WEAKNESSES YET. I'VE ONLY USED IT FOR 3 DAY NOW AND IT IS DOING GREAT!

Summary: THIS IS MY FIRST LCD TV. I LOVE THE BLACK FRAME AROUND IT. IT LOOKS VERY CLASSY! JUST THE RIGHT SIZE AND I LOVE THE SWIVEL BASE. SOUND IS GOOD. I WAS A PANASONIC USER, BUT I THINK SAMSUNG HAS SOLD ME. WE ARE NOW LOOKING INTO BUYING A SAMSUNG HOME THEATRE TO GO WITH IT. (I HAVE A PANASONIC NOW) BUT I LIKE THE LOOKS OF THE SAMSUNG. MOVIES ARE GREAT ON IT. WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THIS TV TO ANYONE!

Weaknesses: hard to connect to pc, but got it working after awhile. (use second HDMI port!)

Summary: This tv is my 2nd lcd tv and 1080p is simply awesome. I use it as computer monitor, and it's so clear, bright, and crisp! Bluray and HD-dvd movies look great and even speakers aren't that bad as reviewed by others.

Weaknesses: Sound

Summary: I have this TV hooked up to an HTPC and Vista Media Center at 1920 X 1080 has never looked so good. Regular analog feeds look considerably better and the HD feeds, even better. Blu-Ray and HD-DVDs look fabulous. The connections are plenty and the setup easy. The sound could be better, but I don't even use it. It is a little weak.

Strengths: Great picture in light and dark room. Easy to set-up

Weaknesses: Sound is a little thin. Need to point remote at lower right corner

Summary: I am driving this TV with cable HD through an HDMI cable (1080i)- looks great. I am using the factory settings and it looks perfect so I haven't tried playing around too much with all the picture settings - haven't had the need. Did go through teh menu and it looks pretty straight forward. Everyone comments on the crystal clear HD picture. Non HD picture looks pretty good also. Nice one button picture zoom which sizes std def to the widescreen but cuts off top and bottom to fill so it doesn't stretch. Makes the picture a bit grainy but not bad. Good if you don't like the black bars on each side of the picture. Connected an up-converting DVD player since I didn't want to shell out big $$ for blue ray yet, and the picture looks better than std DVD on the Samsung. Lightweight too, so it was real easy to hang on the wall. The side input jacks allow easy quick connection of devices that aren't permanently connected. Get as much HD content as you can, drive the sound through a surround sound system and you'll have an awesome set-up.

Strengths: Beautiful color, clarity, 1080p, 5 MS response rate, 30,000:1 Dynamic Contrast Ratio, works great with a HTPC after you set it up. Blu-ray movies look GORGEOUS!!!

Weaknesses: Wasn't super easy to setup with my PC thru HDMI. You have to use the second HDMI port and set the "Name" of the connection to "PC". But after you get past that it works perfect.

Summary: This is my first LCD TV but it's been fantastic so far. I did TONS of research before I made this purchase and I'm very very happy with my purchase. It comes out to cheaper than the older Samsung model but instead you got 5 MS response rate and a 30k dynamic contrast ratio. I don't notice any kind of "blurring" or "ghosting" during action scenes at all. Everything looks incredibly sharp and clear. It's a perfect size to use a computer monitor especially for gaming). I'm playing Bioshock on this with my 5.1 Logitech Z-5500 sound system and it's just insane. If you want a quality LCD and don't want to waste money on 120hz and "anti-judder" technology that hasn't quite matured then go for this TV, you won't be disappointed.

Strengths: 30,000:1 contrast ratio, picture, set up

Weaknesses: Only 1 S-Video/RCA Jack, 'Enter' button on remote is not convenient, some closed captioning appears in the middle of the screen

Summary: I had already bought a Toshiba 37CV510U for a gift, but I wanted a 40 inch for myself. Contrast ratio and response time were both very important to me since from what I can tell, it mattered greatly to the picture quality and sports action.I wanted to get a 120Hz TV, but they all cost too much. When the series 5 Samsung's came out, the improved contrast ratio, 5ms response time, and price fit everything I was looking for.The set up was very easy as there was nothing to assemble. The HD pictures look great as long as you're not sitting a foot or two away from the TV. Watched some DVD's on a normal DVD player and the picture was great. The only thing that looked a bit weird was the subtitles were a bit pixelated. I imagine an upconvert DVD player will look even nicer.I am currently just receiving over the air broadcasts and the digital broadcasts look great. The analog broadcasts look better on the old tube TV's though, but it really won't matter with the required transition in 2009.The only issues I had with the TV are: (1)There is only one S-Video/RCA Jack so you pretty much need to upgrade all of your equipment. (2)The close captioning on some channels appeared in the middle of the picture. (3)There is only 1 'enter' button on the remote and it is at the bottom with all of the arrows. When I manually punch in a channel near the top of the remote, I either have to wait or press the 'enter' button at the bottom. Those are all very minor issues though and I would certainly buy this TV again and recommend it to others.

Strengths: Great picture. Awesome contrast. Awesome definition. Easy setup. Great sound.

Weaknesses: None

Summary: This tv right out of the box completely blew me away. The Setup was a simple plug and play no following wiring diagrams like on older or other tvs. All Connections are labeled well. Turned tv on and just set in front of it with my mouth open. I watched two movies just to try out all the settings and for the most part i am back on the factory settings. A must buy great lcd would strongly suggest it.
