Strengths: I had seen few display TV before choosing Sharp LC-42D64U. Has awesome picture quality. Sound is decent (I would not call it as weakness,it is comparable to other name brands.
Weaknesses: NO DVI output.
Summary: I luckily was able to get on the family and friends offer from Sharp direct paid $1000+Tax. We are very happy with the purchase. Looks nice with dark black paint. Although prices have come down but it is still a steal for $1000.

Strengths: great picture, slim profile, cost
Weaknesses: some have banding issues
Summary: the first lcd i got had a dead pixel but my second one seems to be perfect. There is minor banding but it isnt am issue while using the tv. 1080p on this lcd looks great. Bear in mind that non-full hd will look pixelated at times if it is coming from your cable company as the signal is compressed. however non compressed signals are stunning on this slim lcd. Good number of inputs and priced right. No regret making this purchase.

Summary: The first you you will notice about this TV is the excellent fit and finish, piano black paint with just the right amount of chrome on the monitor rim.As soon as you turn it on, you will be stunned by the vivid pictures and the amount of details it exhibits.I bought this unit for around $1,000 which I think is above and beyond my expectation for a 42" Full HDTV LCD around this time.I have to give it two thumbs up, way up!

Strengths: Thin and light cabinet, low power consumption, excellent PQ with both HD and SD sources.
Weaknesses: Weak audio and remote control can be better.
Summary: I liked this Sharp Aquos LC42D64U for their overall excellent picture quality, especially deeper blacks, shadow detail ..., which really benefited when viewing HD programs, HD-DVD or Blu-ray. There are no banding with this 42D64U as it was big problem with D62U series. The audio is weak just like other TV's, specially the low frequencies, the distortion is very high at normal listening level and unbearable at higher volume, this requires an external audio system. The remote control while it has a back-light option, there are shortcomings such as no direct input of connected sources, instead you must scroll through a small menu. Also some important buttons are scattered all around the remote with no uniformity, some even located below a concealed covering.

Strengths: Slim Design, Remote control easy to use, Great picture quality
Weaknesses: Smaller speakers
Summary: This TV is just great! I absolutely fell in love with the slim design when we placed it onto the wall. I wasn't sure how it would look in the cabinet we had purchased but it turned out fine. The picture quality is excellent for the price and I find myself watching this more than any other LCD we have. I was able to purchase this at a discounted price but it is well worth paying the full price for it. I am actually considering purchasing another as the quality is phenomenal. The speakers could be a little bigger but then the design would probably have to change. In all... don't hesitate on buying this if you are in the market for a 42 in. LCD. I highly recommend this model.

Strengths: (1) Nice picture quality(2) Nice surround sound - good enough and loud enough for me since my living room is pretty small.(3) Much slimmer than competitors' offerings and pretty light for a 42".
Weaknesses: (1) Slow response time when changing channels.(2) Manufacturer's default settings are not ideal... I had to play around with the settings to get a nice colour.
Summary: I waited for a month to receive this TV from Sharp. But the wait is well worth it! I can't bear to leave home to go to work in the morning cos the TV is so wonderful! It's a big upgrade from a 21 inch to a 42 inch TV for me. Love love love my TV! I will be spending more hours in front of the TV. Wish I had more money to buy the bigger screen ones... looking forward to my next upgrade in a couple of years... ;o)

Strengths: Spectacular picture, deep blacks, contrast ratio, slim design, easy setup, great customer service, value!
Weaknesses: None so far!
Summary: The Sharp LC-42D64U is my first HDTV and it is simply one awesome TV! I did a ton of research before purchasing this TV so I had a good idea of what to looks for. I have watched LCD/Plasma HDTVs by Sony/Samsung, and this HDTV is every bit as capable as those other brands! The picture is incredible and there are vast user controls to dial in a picture to fit your tastes. The design of this TV - including the very thin bezel - is very appealing as well. I would definitely recommend this HDTV to anyone who is in the market for one.

Strengths: Very slim and sexy, picture quality is amazing on hd signals. Easy to set up
Weaknesses: None
Summary: This LCD is awesome. I did a little home and browsed different brands before I had made my purchase. You want to think a little before you drop over 1000 dollars on a TV, but not a lot of thinking needed on this one. Well worth the price and it's full 1080p. The picture is Sharp and surely lives up to its name, the design is very appealing, and the sound is decent. This TV does have a VGA cable as well, unlike the LC-42D62U, for those of you wanting to hook up your XBOX HD Player for 1080p (updated software required and can be downloaded from XBOX Live) or your computer.

Summary: The picture is amazing when connected to my phillips up-scale dvd player in 1080p. Another wonderful feature is the connection options (3 HDMI inputs, 2 component inputs and pc input). BTW, I don't feel sound quailty is not good enough for watching TV or movies.

Strengths: Slim profile and trim, small footprint, fast response time, true deep blacks, great picture quality, nice contrast ratio, no banding that I can see.
Weaknesses: No DVI input, glossy black trim attracts dust.
Summary: I had Aquous 37" before this TV. I liked that one but 42D64U is something totally different. Right out of the box I loved the sleek looks of the set. Pure elegance. Picture performance, contrast ratio and real deep blacks make the viewing experience awesome. As a matter of fact I tend to watch more TV now. Even fast moving scenes are not bad at all. There are some reviews that have reported banding issues but I have not seen any of that on my set. I wish this TV had one DVI input since Comcast doesn't support HDMI on their HD boxes yet. I would recommend this TV to other folks shopping for a nice top of the line LCD tv.

Strengths: Great Picture, very nice looking TV. Easy to set up. Blacks are nice and deep.
Weaknesses: Sound isn't the strength of this TV. It isn't really bad, I would describe it as so so.
Summary: I was so happy to buy this TV, it has an amazing picture. I would ranks it among the very best LCD TVs. I had been shopping for a nice LCD TV to fit in a particular spot, and was delighted to discover this amazing 42" Tv with the smaller footprint that fits beautifully into the space it was purchased for. I would certainly recommend this beautiful Tv to friends.

Strengths: Picture quality is excellentThere is no banding like the previous sharp aquosVery light and thin
Weaknesses: I notice some pixilation during fast tv movement (i.e. a helicopter flying rapidly past mountains)
Summary: I own a top of the line pioneer plasma. I bought this tv during the sharp friends and family deal which ended up costing me about $1100 compared to the normal $1500. Even at $1500 this tv is worth every penny. Picture quality is amazing right out of the box. Tuned correctly this can exceed a more expensive Sony Bravia that my friend just bought. The only problem I noticed is some slight pixilation during fast movement. Not really a big deal because you really don't notice it much. I have not tested the speakers so I cannot comment on them. The tv is very thin and extremely light. I can lift it up and put it on the wall mount on my own and I am not very strong. I think it weighs about 50 pounds. Overall I love it and would buy another!
