Negative Review

Strengths: None

Weaknesses: Aweful Quality

Summary: I have never written a negative review before, but I feel it is my responsibility to convey my experience as a warning to others. I bought a createve Zen player less than a year ago. After only 10-20 hours of use, it broke (the power switch did not work). I returned it to the company and was charged $25 to fix it even though the device was essentially new. I received it, used it sparingly again, and same problem occurred. I sent it back to them, and now they want $71 to fix the device. I sent the device to them over one month ago, and have only now resolved the issue. They refuse to fix the device, and I refuse to pay any more money on this piece of crap. Instead I will buy an iPod. Not only have I been robbed of over $200, they now have my device. Creative may fool you with more features and a better price, but in the end it will cost you much more. It cost me over $200, and now I have nothing. A friend of mine bought and iPod. When it broke, Apple replaced it with a new one for free. So my suggestion, do not buy from Creative, buy from Apple. There is a reason Apple owns this market!! Don not make the same mistake I made.

Summary: my zen player is very bad. i have only had it for 8 months and the battery has just failed, and it is very expensive to buy a new one. i don't think that i will. it freezes often and has to rebuild itself. i am very upset with the purchase of my product, and when i tried to get a refund at futureshop 2 months ago (after having it for only 6 months), they wouldn't.

Strengths: Decent sound quality

Weaknesses: Hard drive crashes, horrible customer support

Summary: I bought this item 8 months ago, and recently the hard drive crashed. It froze mid-play and I was unable to get it working again, despite following the directions on the Creative website. Upon reviewing customer reviews on various websites, this is apparently a VERY common problem. The Creative warranty is only good for a year (which, thank goodness, I am still eligible for), but the support is ridiculous. They want to charge a minimum of $12.99 per call, plus an additional charge for calls over 30 minutes. Email support is only free for the first year--they actually charge you after that. I have to pay $25 plus shipping just to send the product in to be tested for repairs--then pay for labor. Add to this an awkward interface and frustrating sort options on the device (i.e., unable to shuffle all songs from various albums by one artist), this product is NOT worth your money.

Strengths: 1. Ease of use; both the device and the software. 2. Excellent sound quality. 3. Set up/installation was a breeze. 4. Device is loaded with extras!

Weaknesses: Touch pad was a bit...uh...touchy, but the sensitivity CAN BE ADJUSTED. I adjusted it, so this turned out to be a non-issue for me.

Summary: I have a *lot* of CD's, and I'm fairly new to the world of MP3 players. I thought the purchase of an MP3 player would be a great alternative to my hauling around my CD's when I wanted to listen to music, (in my car, at a party, etc.). After I researched MP3 players for about 2 weeks on the internet, (learning about them and sound formats, what type of players were available, etc.), I started comparing the different players, (iPod, Sansa, Toshiba, iRiver, Rio and Creative). I compared price, extras, online "tech" magazine write-ups and recommendations, and purchaser comments. Creative, in my opinion, won hands down! I was torn between purchasing Creative's Zen Micro or Zen Touch. After deciding I *really* didn't need the 20 to 40GB of storage the Zen Touch had, I chose the Micro, (with its 6GB's). I'm so glad I did! I received my Zen Micro 6GB player yesterday and, within an hour after opening the box, I was loading the device with music from my CD's. Now, I'm not a computer wiz, (I'm self taught). I had NO PROBLEM installing the software that came with the player, nor did I have a problem using the software to load my player. It is so VERY USER FRIENDLY! And... if you know how to access files on your computer, you will have no problem working the menu on the Zen. It is logical and easy to understand. Do yourself a favor... stop shopping - buy the Zen Micro! You won't be sorry.

Strengths: Storage, navagation, good software, fast file transfer, no buttons to gum up,sharp screen, powerful sound, lighted touch buttons and good equalizers.

Weaknesses: could come with a better case, included charger and spare battery - I'd gladly pay more for a complete package with this player.

Summary: I got this for podcasting (I listen to net broadcasts that are auto-sent to me each day to my desktop) and I loved the fact that you can record FM, voice or streaming content directly into the unit. The radio is pretty good compared to most I have had packaged with CD Players and having so many record options really broardens this players abilities. I also enjoy music and the Zen booms-out really well into ANY HEADPHONES I have used. I have Bose Quiet Comfort Noise Reduction because I work in a high noise enviroment - the combination of the player, 8 equalizers (plus a custom one you can set) makes this a million dollar sound machine!!!! As you have read in other reviews, the touch sensitive buttons CAN be a little tricky, but once you master them, they really are sweet. I think the neatest feature is that ALL THE BUTTONS (plus the out-line of the player) are back-lit, so in total darkness, you can manipulate the player effortlessly. It even has enough glow to use as a close-area flashlight in a dark room - lol. The software is intensive too, although it has a learning curve, you still have a wizard screen which walks you through MOST operations. I like this player a lot. I would gladly have paid another $50 or so for a kit which included a nice case, extra battery and charger. It comes in a roped bag which you knot-tie at the top - it really isn't a ergonomic way to use the player. I got it for under $170 at Walmart, which beats all the prices I've seen online. I have used other mp3 players, helped friends and coworkers operate theirs and WITHOUT A DOUBT the Creative Zen Micro is the EASIEST navigation system of all the players I have handled.

Strengths: Size, lightweight, good sound quality

Weaknesses: Navigation not easy to use - often end up in the wrong menu

Summary: I am so far very contended with this player - given that this is WMA compatible and allows me to store my Yahoo Music subscription tracks on the device. The white body with black faceplate takes soem getting used to.

Strengths: Plenty of storage, re-chargeable battery, good sound quality.

Weaknesses: None.

Summary: Finally I can take all my music with me and leave the CDs at home. Excellent player, love the FM radio. Contoured sides make holding it easy. An included calendar and contact list program lets the unit double as a PDA. My only regret is that I did not get a larger memory unit.

Strengths: -Low Price-Small Price-Great Sound-Great Display-FM + Voice Record-Comes with rechargeable battery

Weaknesses: -Low battery life(12 Hours)-Too sensitive even on low settings-Clicking often collides with the sliding-Easy to accidently skip a song-HD player-Has to be charged via PC unless you buy a adapter

Summary: I recently bought this from Best Buy for $150. Happy with it but also disappointed at some futures. The Zen Micro is a great MP3 player. It has a display and is quite small. However the manual gives like absolutely NO info. It doesn't include a adapter to charge without a PC, you have to charge it from the PC unless you buy a adapter. It's also a HD player so it can be easily damaged from activites(jogging, basketball, etc.). It's still good for $150.

Strengths: Small size, great looks, excellent audio quality. Nifty "pulsating" blue lighting when the devices goes idle.

Weaknesses: Battery life could be better. Touch sensitive input system is a bit whacky. Takes a while to get used to.

Summary: Overall, I really like this unit. I got it for $199 - $50 Gift Card from Best Buy. I like the small size and the included head phones are great. I can just slip it in my pocket and go. I also bought an FM transmitter so I could hook it up to my car and it works great.

Weaknesses: None

Summary: This is an excellent player for those of you who dont like to use itunes. The hard drive went out on my first player, so i had to get a replacement, but the replacement works fine. The sound quality is better than my old ipod mini, the battery lasts longer than my ipod mini, and it plays wma. Also it works great with windows media player and my yahoo subscription, which is a big plus for me.
