Strengths: Amazing surround sound system. Easy to install. A lot of inputs. Support HDMI

Weaknesses: None

Summary: This product is very easy to install with everything color coded and ready to go. The wires were long enough to reach where I wanted them to go and then some. I previously had a sony surround sound and this one beats it by miles at a time. I would highly reccomend buying this item for any one. For only $500 with 2 hdmi inputs you can't beat it. The sound from this is simply AMAZING, I can now say I feel as if I am at the movies.

Strengths: Extremely nice sound quality for the money. The setup is very intuitive and the guidelines are well written. Design is very simple and practical

Weaknesses: The packaging is a bit weak for shipping purposes.

Summary: The SR800 is an update to the discontinued SR790. After a lot of research done, I came to the conclusion that the SR800 is a superior home theater system for the money/size. It can't be compared to top of the line setups that cost easily 10 times more, however for ~$450-$500, this system is more than adequate for typical living room. Setup was very straight forward and the installation guide was easy to follow. There are a lot of video/audio input choices to make your life easy. Sound quality is awesome and the base is solid. Downsides on the system include weak packaging. This system has a shipping weight of almost 100lb. When mine arrived it was pretty beat up. So be careful on that even if you are moving the box yourself. I also feel that the remote control can be improved a little bit on the range. Somehow on mine (with new battery) it doesn't work like some of my other remotes. Overall the system is a great buy and I would recommend it to everyone.

Strengths: Its an impressive system with a very inexpensive price tag. You get A LOT for the price. Good front speakers, excellent subwoofer, easy setup and calibration,

Weaknesses: The HDMI is pass-through so have to hook up extra audio cables for everything, if you want all your hookups to be digital, 2 coaxial and 2 optical inputs may not be enough, no mp3 jack, or usb ports!

Summary: This is a great system, with a lot of pros. The speakers included are really good, but you might want to upgrade the cables for the back speakers because with the cables provided, you really are losing most of their power and quality. The setup and calibration were easy, even for a newbie like me. Hooking it up to everything I am sure is very simple for someone with a little bit more experience... I am actually trying to figure out which connections and cables I need to buy to get the best possible video and audio out of it. I have a Panasonic HD Plasma TH-42PX600U and an Oppo DV-970HD, they all work perfectly with the onkyo's remote control. The two things I think are missing are real HDMI and an MP3 input jack, I am not a huge fan of IPods so the fact that there is an optional IPod dock and not a universal MP3 jack, kicks my derriere. But that's basically it, everything else I love.

Strengths: Very powerful system

Weaknesses: Speaker cables .... use at least 16 ga. speaker wire

Summary: I spent about 2 months looking for a SS system mostly online. Almost every night while watching TV I would surf on the Net looking at reviews. I first came up with a price range I was comfortable with and then did a search. The HT-SR800 kept coming up in my searches. I started reading reviews on this unit and started noticing that every site that had reviews to read would always have multiple pages of reviews compared to other SS systems maybe only having a few. There were very few bad reviews but most all of them stated to use a bigger gauge of speaker wire. I would also recommend bigger wire. This SS system is awesome !!! Very easy installation and hookup, even for those that are not familure with A/V wiring. Setup is fairly quick when using the included microphone which automatically sets the volume levels for each speaker. The subwoofer is GREAT it can actually shake the floor if you have it turned up and with no distortion. The price is great for this unit and comes with a 2 year warranty (How many electronics now days come with a 2 year warranty? Your lucky to get 90 days to 1 year.) I thought I might have to pay the big bucks for a Bose or other big name to get this kind of sound. If your wanting a Great SS System this is the one !

Strengths: Excellent sound, speakers are automatically calibrated, nice looking speakers.

Weaknesses: None.

Summary: This is an awesome entertainment system! Before purchasing, I did my research on different home theater systems using CNET and consumer reports. Both have the onkyo systems rated highly, and now I understand why. The included instructions guide you on the placement of the speakers. As there are differences between setups, the system automatically calibrates itself, so the sound reaching where you are sitting is excellent. To quote my wife "it feels just like we are at the movie theater". The sound is superb. I would highly recommend this system to anyone interested in getting a great home theater system.

Strengths: Excellent basic system for those who want to keep it simple and still have great sound

Weaknesses: The remote is more complicated than it needs to be.

Summary: I have been impressed with the quality of Onkyo products for several years. This unit has proven to be a simple system that produces a great sound. Installation was fun with the included programming sound meter makes it great to balance the sound in the room. The only real problem was it took more time to learn and work the remote than to install the system. But the results were worth the time and the price makes it a good buy.

Weaknesses: -Speaker cables are a bit thin-Sub is very big in size-The box is huge.-No HDMI audio

Summary: After I brought my plasma I knew I need a good sound system. I choose this system and no regrets. I plug this system into my PS3, games and Blu-ray are awesome. I've also play mp3s on it and delivers very good, clear sound. For ~$400 you can go wrong with this system!

Strengths: Price, built solid, easy to set up, easy to hang speakers on wall

Weaknesses: HDMI pass through only, needs seperate audio cable for sound

Summary: I've been always a fan of Onkyo products, because of their products quality, simple but professional design. Took me about an hour to set up the system (including hanging the left and right surround speakers and the rear speakers on the wall and hide the wires under the carpet). I play games, watch movies, watch TV, and listen to music with the receiver; the sound is excellent. Compare to other HTIB, this system has an unbeatable price and sound quality. It's not difficult to make my decision on buying this system, because of the review, the price and Onkyo's image to me. This is definitely an awesome investment.

Strengths: Easy setup, price.

Weaknesses: Small gauge speaker wire and not quite enough of it, packaging was POOR.

Summary: I bought this system to complement my Sony Bravia 46" LCD TV and it does the job nicely. I'm not sure as the Dolby 7.1 isn't lost in the fray (as not many audio streams even support Dolby 7.1) but the speaker enclosures being MDF instead of plastic is a nice touch. The shipping packaging is abominable and looked like it had fallen off the truck, several times. I tended to think it's the shipper, but seeing other reviews with similar results, I think Onkyo just needs to package the product better. I could have spent a LOT more money, but in the end my ear isn't that discerning so this has been the right choice.

Strengths: DTS settings, powered sub, HDMI pass-through, full 7.1 channels, lots of power

Weaknesses: none found

Summary: I was looking for a complete theater system (receiver speakers) that had the specs and features of the higher-end models. This was the only complete system I could find with THD of less than 1%. Additionally, the receiver has plenty of inputs, including several digital inputs, as well as 7.1 speaker channels with a powered subwoofer. I love the automatic speaker setup (called Audyssey), which eliminates the typical tweaking of individual speaker volume by simply putting the included microphone in 3 positions in your listening area. The system does all the testing calculating and adjusts it for you.I ended up getting mine for $425 after tax at a brick mortar store, which is an OUTSTANDING deal for the level of equipment this model has. Without a doubt, the best stereo system I've ever owned.

Strengths: The sound is great. Many sound settings to choose from. The Bass is great.

Weaknesses: Even with HDMI cables you still need seperate audio cables. (Hdmi pass-thru only)

Summary: This is an excellent surround sound system. The price can not be beat for all of the features that is has. My grandson's absolutely love the sound when playing their Xbox games. When playing NFL games you feel you are in the stadium. Fm radio sounds great as well.

Summary: We remodeled our family room and also wanted to purchase a LCD TV and a surround sound system. I spent about a whole month every night doing research on different SS systems. I kept running into all of these great reviews on the HT-SR800 Home Theater System so I decided to purchase one. This system is absolutely awesome!!! I was not familiar with this brand but now can tell you this is a very good system. The automated speaker setup which uses a microphone to automatically setup proper speaker adjustment worked quite well. I played with setting them up manually and found the auto setup was just as good as the auto adjustment feature. You can crank the sub woofer up and I can actually feel the vibration in my recliner. It has a very easy to use menu structure for adjusting settings, and plenty of connections on the rear for any type of external equipment you want to connect. I bought this without hearing one at any store and hoped that I would be please with it. I am not only pleased but overwhelmed.
