Weaknesses: maps and POIs not as updated as other GPSsome glare and hard to see in BRIGHT sunlight
Summary: Each GPS device has features that will appeal differently to each user. So there is no clear winner, just best fit. I like that the TT7 pairs up and acts as a hands free device with my bluetooth phone. I can also use this pairing to check traffic and weather on my route using the internet connection. You have change many things in the TT7, like loading other navigation voices, such as Darth Vader and John Cleese. All in all, this is a very solid GPS device.

Strengths: straight from the box, it's easy to use. no need to download maps from PC. Fun to play with, has night-time colors to reduce glare, multiple voices for directions- male, female, different languages.
Weaknesses: Oddly shaped, wish it was more recttangle/square to fit better in a travel bag, briefcase or purse
Summary: Shows points of interest,i.e. hotels, gas stations, hospitals, etc. This is my first GPS very happy with it. Have friends with GPS systems but TomTom is easier to use. Highly recommended!

Strengths: Bright screen, easy to use, good voice selection
Weaknesses: Mine had several problems, listed in the Comments
Summary: The first address I punched in was my previous address. A complex built 10 years ago, but TomTom said there is no such address. In my present town I have taken several trips just to test it out. It is helpful and accurate, but there is a bug -- all numeric sts/avs are shown double. e.g. 11th Street displays as 11 11 Street. There were NO exeptions to this--this is a city of numeric streets and avenues so it got very confusing when 2nd Street S displayed as 2 2 Street S.I tried to download a system upgrade (from 5.2 to 5.4) The instructions clearly show an option "Install the application", but my (almost) identical screen does not have this option. The manual says that it includes a remote, but one was not there, and their web site seems to confirm this is correct. Further, the manual says where to find the product code. Not there! (I mention these small issues because it illustrates that this company has a tendancy to be sloppy!)I have left three messages for support, but have receive a single response saying they are getting a lot of emails so will take longer than usual to get back to me.Unfortunately, my opportunity to return this item expires while I am away on a trip (starting in a couple of days), so I really have no opportunity to wait to see what tech support says.As I said in my title, Maybe I got the lemon because my experience differs greatly from other reviewers here. Hopefully these notes will give you an opportunity to check out these problems before you buy.

Strengths: intuitive operation, 3D view, variable color schemes, traffic navigation, hands-free phone interface
Weaknesses: Doesn't support all the phones correctly, yet. Also, there's no single map of all of Europe available for download, even though such a map exists on SD RAM for the GO500
Summary: I used the TomTom software on Palm T3 with a Bluetooth GPS receiver before, so I knew what I was getting, it is essentially the same, but due to the multitude of connections, cables, etc. is too much clutter, even though good for occasional use. This product doesn't these disadvantages and beats hands down all the factory built in GPS systems in operations. Also, since it's on the dash or above, rather than somewhere in the console section of the car, one doesn't have to take the eyes off the traffic when operating and navigating, which should be a major safety factor.I only wish, there were a velcro foot for this, or some bean-bag mount, since I really dislike the window suction cup mounts in general. Also, the power cord should be longer, since I like to have the unit in the lower left corner of the windshield where it only obscures the inspection sticker, rather than potentially relevant traffic.

Strengths: Simple to use, accurate maps, clear display
Weaknesses: Battery life
Summary: After using the Go 700 for two weeks in urban and rural Iowa and Nebraska and two weeks in Germany and Austria, I am extremely pleased. The intuitive re-routing feature is excellent for the rare instances where a road has been converted into a one-way (why are they always the WRONG way?) or a left-hand turn has been eliminated since the maps were published. Battery life is an issue for me but the lighter cable power cord works well. European maps are an additional $150 but the TomTom in Germany was indispensable.

Strengths: Amazingly accurate geo-positioning. Rapid satellite acquiring. Very fast route recalculation. Idiot-proof menus. Lots of options. Nice, compact design. Loud, crystal clear sound.
Weaknesses: Inaccurate or inexistent mapping of some suburban and rural areas. POI?s are limited and in many cases outdated. Does not display street name if it?s a numbered State or County Road. Voice assistance not present for some interstate access ramps.
Summary: I?ve been using GPS devices for both terrestrial and blue water navigation for many years. Of course the units designed to help find your way in the middle of an ocean are very accurate but they are also ridiculously expensive. TomTom GO 700 proves that geo-positioning accuracy and price are not necessarily related. I tested my new toy in cloudy conditions on a known position (previously verified by both celestial and high accuracy GPS methods) and the results were absolutely amazing: the variation was less than 0.0005 degrees, that?s just over 3 feet!!! However, geo-position accuracy means nothing if the available maps are not accurate. And unfortunately this is an area that needs improvement. I found over 10 locations, mainly in the far suburbs of Detroit and Chicago, where mapping was inaccurate or was totally missing. Hopefully, future updates will solve this problem. It all depends how fast... Another shortcoming is the listing of some numbered county and state roads without their common street name, which makes ?urban navigation? rather difficult. The screen is bright and easy to read, but in full sunlight is hard to see. A detachable hood could probably solve this problem easily, and I am surprised that TomTom does not offer one for sale. There are some other small details that need to be addressed, but all in all the TomTom GO 700 is an exceptionally good road navigation device. I highly recommend it!

Strengths: Easy to use and read. Multiple languages are just plain fun to play with.
Weaknesses: Copy mobile Nokia 6600 phone numbers to TomTom says "This feature not supported". Rarely comes up with the fastest route, especially during rush hours. Resets itself for no apparent reason.
Summary: It has a very intuitive user interface. It's fun to play around with the different langages. It's a great device for navigating in unfamiliar places. It des not allow me to download my Nokia 6600 phone numbers, saying "This feature is not supported". It resets itself at the exact same point every day on my way to work for no apparent reason. It rarely comes up with the fastest route, especially during rush hours. I still cannot get it to connect with my phone for traffic advisories even though I have Internet with GPRS enabled and available. It's map is obviously outdated by several years.

Strengths: It is EXTREMELY user friendly. The Sound is CRYSTAL CLEAR. Many points on interest already stored on hard disk.
Weaknesses: The Go 700 is supposed to come with a map of Canada already stored on the Hard disk, but for some reason, it's not there.
Summary: This GPS System is EXCELLENT. I do no regret buying it, especially for the great price...(Thanks to Pricegrabber). It is very easy to use. Many different languages to choose from. I highly recommend it to anyone who likes to know how to get places fast. The only thing I didn't understand about the product is that it didn't come with a map of Canada, I still have not called them yet to see why that happened. Anyways, It's a great product.

Strengths: Great product if you can get it under $700Gets me to where I need to go.Great features where I can drill down a map to pick a location where I want to go. Didn't need to read manual to use.
Weaknesses: Sometimes it does not use the fastest route, but the key is to get me there, and that is what is does.
Summary: If you took a wrong turn, it will automatically get you back on track by setting a new route. The screen display could be better during the day. The glear makes it hard to read sometimes. The unit is nice size, but I wish it could be smaller. Basically it's a great product! Easy to use and learn. Didn't even read the manual and I was on the way.

Strengths: Excelent user interface. Multiple language support.Nice graphics.Well thought-out package.
Weaknesses: Inteligent choice of best route.GPS reception.
Summary: I have had the Tom Tom Go 700 for a week now, and overall I found it a good gadget for the car. Just like any other GPS/Navigation system, it is truly indispensable when traveling to an area that you do not know very well. I chose it over other systems because I believed it to have excellent multilanguage support. I am Greek, my wife is Hungarian, and while we live in the US we have some friends/relatives visiting us. I thought it would be great while they are here to lend them a car with a GPS that would speak their own language. The Tom Tom passed this test with flying colors. It supports voices in a plethora of languages (including Greek and Hungarian) so if that is a concern of yours it has you covered. Overall I found it to be competent, but my biggest dissapointment has been slow acquisition/no acquisition of signal at times, and weird/inconsistent choices of best route. At times it is based on highway preference, and other times on shortest route. Also lack of knowledge of exclusively HOV highways at specific times (this can cost you an expensive ticket...). Overall I think it is a good choice, but given the chance, I would check out the Magellan 700 or 760 a little more closely. It might be a better alternative. Best of luck to all of you. Strengths: Easy to read screen and good looking unit in car.
Weaknesses: Limitation admitted by company that you can only store 50 favorites. Unit resets itself spontaniously about 3 times a day. Map was off by alost 500 yds in areas of Canada on a trip.
Summary: Although I really like the docking station and ergonomics of the unit it is a real dissapointment. I use this for business and only being able to store 50 favorites leaves me haveing to enter address all the time. Try calling TomTom customer service, you get an answering machine 90% of the time. My TomTom is curently with them on a warranty return. I used to have a garmin and would trade mine back for it even trade if I could. I will be Ebaying this when I get it back.

Strengths: big display, loud speakers, map software excellent for my area, lots of ability to personalize - voices, language, color of display
Weaknesses: Problems with glare (although it is said to be as good as any dash mount unit in this regard), battery life and metering
Summary: I am extremely pleased with the Tom Tom Go 700. It is easy to use out of the box and the features above distinguish it from competitors. Navigation is like having a Summer home instead of staying in a motel. Once you get it, you can't live without it. Just this past weekend the Go 700 saved me 15 minutes on a frequently made trip showing me a much better route. Besides saving time, it allows you to predict your time of arrival with great accuracy (save accidents and traffic delays). My assistant is pleased not to receive calls from my mobile phone seeking directions to meetings (she'd use Mapquest on the computer and try and help me when Yahoo Maps failed me) and she enjoys knowing the ETA of my return. In my personal life, I tended to be the guy who wouldn't ask for directions. Now I feel like a rally driver with a skilled co-pilot. My battery life criticism is minor. I prefer to use the rechargeble battery instead of the cigarette lighter power source. There is a plug for the lighter that comes with the purchase. I use the lighter for my radar detector, so I would need to get one of those 1 to 2 accessories from an electronics store. Since I have the radar unit in the center of the dash and the Go left of the steering wheel, I'd also need to permanently wire it or run the power cord from the center console under the wheel and up the dash to the the Go. I use the battery for the cleaner look. On Summer vacation with days of driving, I got the warning flash more that a few times and had to ration the Go. Maybe I just get over myself the next time and run the ugly wire over to the Go. But, without very long travel times, I simply recharge at home and Go.
