Strengths: bright screen, bluetooth, easy to use, Easy to load mp3s

Weaknesses: Does not show the name of the street you are on!!! Does not show the house numbers along the street you are on. Very slow to respond to movement.

Summary: My biggest complaint about this unit and the reason I am returning it is that it does not show the name of the street you are on nor does it show the house numbers of the street you are traveling on. My Streetpilot 3 did both and responded to movement much faster. I often find myself passing the street I wanted because the GPS showed it still 100yds ahead of me. A big step backwards from my OLD StreetPilot 3....

Strengths: The directions and way it tells you directions is very good. I like the adaptability of it.

Weaknesses: The speaker is very garbled and staticly and at times hard to understand. It lacks the capability of saving a route I have established vs the Nuvi route.

Summary: Overall I think the Nuvi is a very good GPS although the sound problem should be corrected. The Nuvi gives you alerts of the turns and then again tells you when your turn is there. The function capability, restaurants, hotels, recreation areas, etc. are very helpful. I would recommend purchasing a Nuvi.

Strengths: easy to input data

Weaknesses: can't see whole route, must drive it to see it.

Summary: I live in area with several multi year road closures, Nuvi doesn't know about them, so I have to avoid them on my own and then let Nuvi recalibrate. About to take a cross country trip and afraid I may run into similar problems elsewhere.

Strengths: Large display, very accurate, different voice accent commands, plenty of POIs and other places in memory.

Weaknesses: Volume a little weak - could be louder, some roads are not programmed, mounting suction cup useless.

Summary: Owned since early February 2008.A solid and worthy device, but not completely perfect. A good example is that at least you know which intersections is best to make that turn onto a busier street or avoid - the GPS does not seem to have a clue where a traffic signal is located. It sure knew where you can make U-turns. I have used a Megellan in a rental car and it pretty much did the same thing a year ago in Utah. The voice commands can me much louder. A great feature when you can hear the spoken words. When the windows are open or someone is talking inside the car, forget it. Thankfully the directions are on the top of the display, but the purpose is to keep the eyes on the road.Mounting suction cup, well, sucks. Buy the static dash mounting mat from either Garmin or another brand. I own the Garmin version and it is worth every penny.I put the 660 through the paces just recently in central Florida for Orlando and Titusville (Shuttle launch). The 660 was near perfect in location of restaurants, attractions and hotels. For some reason, some older public roads on Merritt Island could not be found on the map and it showed us driving on unpaved area - freaky. Although it got us to the hotel in Titusville, the 660 was not content unless you drove to where it considered the final point. 98.5% of the locations and directions were accurate and found the POIs and restaurants without a problem. The 660 holds a charge well, but the car charging cord for lengthy travel times of 2+ hours will be needed. Better to be prepared than sorry.Software and firmware updates can easily be done and is accomplished in a matter of minutes. The software had to be downloaded from Garmin's website (http://www8.garmin.com/products/webupdater/howtoinstall.jsp).Oh yeah, the accent commands. You can change these in the set up. Select the female Australian or female English accent to egg on your better half. The 660 is a great GPS. Not perfect, but I have not used another make that was perfect anyhow. After four months there have been no faults at all. It's portability, reliability and intuitive ease of use makes me give it five stars. Highly recommended. If it knew short cuts I would give it six stars.

Strengths: Text-to-speach, bluetooth integration, FM transmitter and quick start-up.

Weaknesses: Traffic Monitor is free for the first 3 months.

Summary: This is the best navigation GPS out there. Quick start start-up time, good receiption even from my home. I can connect my Nokia 8801 using the bluetooth. The option to transmit music to your FM radio is great! SD slot comes in handy if you need some extra space.

Strengths: Very accurate, seems solidly built

Weaknesses: FM transmission can be problematic especially in larger cities where in one part the FM band may not be used and few miles down the road it is. Downloading doesn't seem clear from their website.

Summary: FM transmission could be better or a cable into the radio would solve that problem.Wish it would take the fastest route not the one that is always North, South, etc from where you are.Accessories seem pricey.

Strengths: good maps, fm tranmitter to radio, stand alone audio, veryaccurate

Weaknesses: stand alone audio quality, mp3 files awkward to play, screen brightness in high light environment

Summary: Used this unit extensively on a trip to Colorado from So. Ca.and back. Generally, it performed excellently. The car wasan '07 Magnum and the suction cup mount was a bit of a problem since it was hard to reach the unit due to the extreme slope of the windshield. The fm transmitter was useful but we had to keep changing the receiving station as we traveled due to interference. The unit is pretty pricey, especially for vacation only use, but I beleive it is one of the best units available. We had no problem locking on to the sats so the unit appears to be plenty sensitive. If you sign up for the recommended audio books program probably you won't have the problems we had. We used onlyfree mp3 books available on the web and since we haven't figured out how to make playlists yet we had to manually select the chapters which was pretty painful. All in all, I highly recommend this unit.

Strengths: Big screen, voice navigation, automatically recalculates route, and most times it is quick to lock to satellites.

Weaknesses: Sometimes it gives strange routings. Traffic info is not very accurate.UPDATED (6/08): Problems with Bluetooth version 3.0 3.1.

Summary: This is quite an upgrade to my old BW magellan gps unit. It is a compact unit, but has a decent size screen. The volume level is good, but it had a hard time finding a clear FM signal in the Seattle area. Some of the streets and retail info is out of date. The bluetooth phone feature is good with a Blackberry when it works. (See weaknesses) Traffic alerts is not very useful. Most of the time is just says slow traffic, and usually underestimates the time delay. My favorite feature is to locate nearby POIs. I just wish the database was more updated and accurate. And I probably won't get lost anymore.UPDATED (6/08): Prices are coming down. Replaced with a Nuvi 680 for about $100 less. The only difference is it has MSN features. Traffic is slightly better and gas prices only show for Regular grade. UPDATED (09/08): Continuous pairing problems with Blackberry Curve. No new version of BT. Lowering rating to 3 stars.

Strengths:

Weaknesses: Most streets unlabeled. Goofy colors on screen. Kept giving me late instructions.

Summary: I have been using Nav for 2 1/2 years now in my Acura. I expected to be helped by having the Nuvi 660 in my Thrifty rental car over the weekend in Monterey, CA. It constantly sent me the long way around and waited until too late to tell me to go left or right. Very interesting on 5 lane freeway! It took me to closed restaurants and asked me to drive on a bike path. I finally stopped at AAA and got a map. I wasn't lost again.

Strengths: Strong, quick satellite recognition; incredibly accurate; now Mac compatible updating..."Garmin Updater"!; clean and clear voice(s); 4.3-inch widescreen display; durable, XLNT Traffic Feature!

Weaknesses: Easy to turn on by accident while in your bag/purse; windshield mount doesn't like extreme heat; Garmin accessories are expensive if you buy from Garmin...buy from an online etailer and save $$$

Summary: And here we have the champ, the benchmark in personal GPS devices, the Nuvi 660. It's got everything you need, and then some in a GPS: it's intuitive to use (I never even opened the manual for the 1st week), the screen is bright and clear even in bright sunlight, it comes with *everything* in the box unless you need the dash mount for your car (in California it's illegal to have windshield mounted devices in your car), the Traffic Monitor actually works, BlueTooth works with practically any BT phone, not just the ones on Garmin's compatibility list, and most important, this GPS is both PC and Mac user-updatable/upgradable as of March 2007! That's a lot of pluses, and there's literally nothing negative to write about the King of personal GPS devices.I've been using my Nuvi 660 for more than 5 months in a new Mazda CX-7 SUV, which I could have purchased with factory Navigation, but rather than suffer $2K depreciation on the new car instantly by paying for the Mazda "Tech Package" with Naviation, I chose to invest in the Nuvi and I've not regretted my decision at all. I travel all over Southern California for business and pleasure, and so far there's only been once instance where the Nuvi couldn't find my address, and I reported it to Garmin, who will report it to their map and data supplier and change the problem address in the next product update. The Traffic Monitor feature is one of the best things going for it. The 1st 3 months of the service is "free", and after that you purchase a $60 yearly subscription from Garmin, where you get an Unlock Code for the service, and voila! Traffic updates are 24/7 on hundreds of local traffic channels, keeping you informed and offering alternate routes should the situation be serious. I loved being able to update my Nuvi 660 on my new Intel iMac last month...I was perusing Macupdate.com one evening for new software, and lo and behond, there was a "Garmin Updater" listed, so I investigated and sure enough, Garmin is now Mac Friendly! How cool it is! All you do is plug your Nuvi into a USB 2.0 port on your Mac, open Garmin Updater, and the rest is easy as any other Mac updating program. It's very important when you get your Nuvi to update to the latest maps, firmware, and POI's, plus the Traffic Monitor's firmware got updated also, so be SURE and connect whether you have a Mac or a PC, and let the updater do its thing. My Nuvi was at software level 2.7 when I plugged it into my iMac, and a box appeared saying "You MUST update your Nuvi!" The updating process took the software from v2.7 to v4.8! It loaded more than 3GB of new data into the Nuvi, updated the firmware, THEN prompted me to restart the Nuvi, then plug it back in so that the Traffic Monitor could be updated also. Incredible! If I loved it before it became Mac compatible, now it's literally invaluable because I'll be able to keep it up to date for years to come just by plugging it into one of my Macs. What's the best part about the Nuvi 660? In two words: it's accurate! And I mean within 75 feet of your destination accurate. Previous to the CX-7, I owned a Honda Pilot EXLN with factory onboard DVD Voice Command Navigation, and other than being able to use Voice Command, it didn't perform any better than the Nuvi does. It's THAT good, because the Honda/Acura system is rated the best of all Navigation systems, in all automobiles, so that's saying a lot when I write that the Nuvi is as good as Honda's onboard DVD-based Navi system. I bought the bean-bag type dash mount system from Garmin for my car(s), and it's very functional and allows perfect placement of the Nuvi on my dash, just out of the driver's line of sight where it would be a hazard otherwise. Finding restaurants, gas stations, ATM's, important (POI's) places of interest like, for example, the San Diego Zoo (which it found for us) is easy with the Nuvi 660 system. That's especially handy when you're out of your home area, and need some cash, or gasoline, and don't know where to look...rest assured, the Nuvi will find it for you! The Security Feature with lock/unlock code is XLNT also, which would render the Nuvi worthless to a thief if it were to be stolen, And as far as portability and security goes, when I park my CX-7 in a high visibility place, like a shopping center parking lot, movie theater lot, Sea World, places like that, I simply disconnect the Nuvi from its mount, place it in its nice leather case, and carry it in my shoulder bag. When I return, simply snap it back onto its mount, and you're ready to navigate again after entering the security code. The Nuvi has no equal, and you can now buy one for about $600 online, so prices have come down considerably since December when I bought mine. If you're undecided about a personal GPS, this is the one to get over all the others out there from Magellan, Tom-Tom etc. The only caution that I can give owners is be careful not to turn it on when you're stowing it in your purse, or bag.

Strengths: Easy set up, GPS, in-car remote phone calling (phone easily interfaced), in car MP3 player- all work well

Weaknesses: FM transmitter does not go down to 87.9, in urban area do not have a free channel to transmit to car FM; screen could be bigger, though less portability that way

Summary: Excellent product; could use two improvements-- better FM transmitter with some way of overcoming urban fm channel glut-- I used a car cassette adapter plugged into nuvi's earphone audio out jack to couple Nuvi to car's stereo system for MP3 and phone audio..those with newer cars can use the "i pod" input plug for that. Also, greater storage on disc for music would be nice, though the SD card slot is sufficient for most--

Strengths: Directions on highways were good.

Weaknesses: Not accurate. Will be returned

Summary: I just received my Nuvi 660 today and used it to drive to two different locations for address's I entered. The first one took me .4 miles past the street address, almost half mile away. The second address entered, GPS indicated I arrived at my address .5 (1/2 mile before the address) I had to ask directions in local gas stations to find the destinations. WAAS was enabled. So much for 3 meter accuracy. To big of a difference between 3/7 meters and a half mile! It will be retuned.
