Strengths: Cheap, acurate, simple to use, no complex features
Weaknesses: Will not take Lat. Long. for cordinates, a bit on the small side for screen.
Summary: I do a lot of highway driving and have found this product to be very accurate. It has a lot f great features for the price. I key the address in, and it gets me where I want to go everytime. I really have only one compalint. I do a lot of hunting and fishing. Some of the places I hunt and fish do not have addresses and are remote. I was disappointed that there is not a feature to key in coordinates. The abilty to key in coordinates is a feature I wish this product had. I just assumed all GPS devieses had this feature. My cheap handheld has it, so figured this would as well. I primarily bought this device to get me to those remote locations. You can save the location once you get there, but if it is a place you have never been too, and it does not have an address there is no way to plot it on this unit. So please reconsier if you do a lot of activites that requre travel to locations with no addresses. This will not work for you.

Strengths: light, compact, fast, durable scratch-resistant body, value for money
Weaknesses: number of POI, mount, voice quality at high level, some f/w bugs still not fixed
Summary: Roadmate 1200 hit the market at the end of November as the cheapest in Roadmate line. A lot of people bought it on Black Friday and complained about some bugs: black screen when min. brightness and checked "75% on battery power", "Exit POI" feature doesn't work, and etc. I bought mine later, and found that only "Black screen" wasn't fixed yet. Still I hope that it will be fixed in next f/w upgrade. Currently the solution is either power on by DC adapter, or hit power button several times until device reboots.Overall it's good and reliable device. I would say it's close to Garmin Nuvi 200 by screen and build quality.Garmin has better routing and more POI (6 mil.). But I like personally Magellan's user interface, "GoHome" icon, "Exit POI" feature, the way how it displays POI on map (much better than Garmin), upcoming turn scheme (split screen), and smart name spell. Also Magellan implemented "sleep mode", which may be activated automatically when DC power off. Also when powered up by DC, GPS is on by itself, which makes very convenient ON/OFF routine in car. In that case Magellan's start-up time is much faster than Garmin (Nuvi 200 loads maps so long). Regarding GPS sat.signal sensitivity and acquisition time - I found that new Atlas chipset in RM1200 is on par to Garmin's genuine Bravo chipset and famous SirfIII chipset.

Strengths: compact, easy menu, Quick Cold start
Weaknesses: few POIs, not many bells & whistles!
Summary: Well you get what you pay for. This is a Basic GPS good for starters. It is reliable as it comes from a reputed company in this business but not as attaractive and feature-rich as the Garmins & TomToms. Does what it is supposed to. Locks in satellites very Fast. Personally i only had a couple of instances when i lost connection. Maps are Not updated in my area for the newly constructed addresses. Overall i find it OK but i needed something with more functionality.

Strengths: Slim compact design, Bright display, easy to use
Weaknesses: Slow to calculate route, only one voice option, hard to turn on, no support on the manufacturers's website as of this review
Summary: This is a basic GPS unit for someone that doesn't need all the bells and whistles of the more expensive units. I've been testing this unit for about two weeks. The user interface is good. It features a touch screen interface and helps to spell out the street names and city when entering the address. The map is readable although the direction indicator can be more prominent. The indicator blends in with the daytime map. The device is simple to setup right out of the box. It just needs some information about the current location. The device does get you to the destination, but may navigate through unnecessary streets. I tested by going to some normal destinations and it was telling me to go on some side streets instead of the main streets. Also, it may take a minute or two to recalculate the directions if you miss a turn. I drove in a circle until it recaluctated the route. The only button on the device is the power button. The button is hard to press to turn on the device. I had to press down for several seconds for it to power on. It shuts itself off when the car is turned off. Would have like to see it power itself on when the car is started. Another weakness, this product is recently new and doesn't have any support on Magellan's website like map updates or upgrades. Overall, it is a decent GPS for the beginner who doesn't want to spend several hundred dollars and just needs something to get to the destination.

Strengths: thin, gets good signal, bright screen
Weaknesses: small screen, bad customer service from manufacturer
Summary: I got this for my friend. It was good when it worked and the form factor was nice since it was thin. Could use a bigger screen though. Not very good customer service when my friend called tech support.

Strengths: None
Weaknesses: Broke 6 months after receiving it
Summary: My unit broke 6 months after receiving it and had to send it back for repair. I was told it would take 5 working days. It has now been 10 weeks and I still don't have it. When you call the repair center you end up speaking to someone in India which only makes it worse. As of today, 11/13/2007, they aren't even sure where my unit is and are trying to find it. Good luck if you choose to purchase a Megallan product.
