Strengths: Unit works very well, and it's sale price made it a good value at time of purchase.

Weaknesses: CUSTOMER SERVICE IS HORRENDOUS!!!! NEVER BUY A MIO PRODUCT unless you enjoy endless mental torment.

Summary: Mio Customer Service will leave you pulling your hair out! DVD's that don't work. (Nope. Can't send a replacment to you. Nope, can't send it in CD form either!) Go online to download the desktop software? The download failed 4 TIMES! Invalid program keys. (Nope. Can't issue a new one right now.) So many people calling Customer Service their phone lines ACTUALLY SHUT DOWN! You really have to experience this circus to fully appreciate it. I really liked the unit and tried to work with their Customer Service department repeatedly (8 attempts)and accomplished NOTHING!! Finally returned it and bought a TomTom. Apparently Mio would rather lose a customer than fix a simple problem. Mio Customer service involves saying one phrase over and over again...."I do apologize for that, BUT..." Forget about it! My new TomTom works great. My only regret is that I didn't dump the Mio Migrain sooner!

Strengths: voice commands clearly audible

Weaknesses: It gives wrong directions, telling you to turn right when you should obviously turn left (as tested in areas where I know the routes well).

Summary: I am thoroughly disappointed and frustrated with this product. I bought it primarily for it's GPS capability. Granted, I live in the New York City area, which may be the most complex set of roadways in the world, but I have even tested it in simple areas of Pennsylvania and Ohio, and it still gives incorrect directions more than 50% of the time. I cannot rely on it at all, so it is just as good as having no navigational system at all. I don't know what to do with this useless product! They say the maps will be updated later this year. This is not the first of their navigational products. Didn't they have correct mapping information before they made this?

Strengths: Accurate Maps, Nice Size

Summary: Pretty good device, nice size with a compact size and large face. Very dependable unit that has very reliable mapping data. Also, has a great POI database. I've seen other GPS products with more bells

Strengths: Display screen is large and clear.Split screen mode is very good.

Weaknesses: Street names are not always clear and distinct, voice sometimes has a slight form of accent.Audio player sound volume goes up when GPS mapping is started.

Summary: Multiple trip points for a route. In excess of 5 were used for a single trip without routing problems.Audio/video player is a bonus for the price.Bluetooth is included but I have not used it.My home was not at the correct street which is apparently not in the database although it has been here for 9 years.Occasionally a street is not positioned properly and a few road additions (2 or 3 years) are not included.Route recalulation is not particualry the best. There is too much time trying to get you to turn back. A new route recalculation is normally not made until one comes to the next intersection and it can be too late to make the necessary turns. The software should be upgraded and offered to exisitng users.A good value for the money when compared to products which offer the same functions. All in all -- Good but COULD BE BETTER.

Strengths: Best value for the money. Looks nice. Simialer units $200-300.00 more

Weaknesses: Operational manual could have more detail especially for the non GPS funtions. Cradle

Summary: Researched for over a year and decided on the c520. This is my first GPS. Picked it up @ UPS and had it set up in less than 5 minuits. Maps are the updated July of 2007 version. The zoom feture is nice for smaller detail. Split screen great. I took a gamble on the bluetooth linking with my Nextel I580 and no problems at all. I also purchased the power cradle 2 weeks ago which I highly recommend. You get a larger speaker which seems to be a little clearer and louder. The standard cradle is very cumbersome removing the unit.

Strengths: Nice Price, nice display, accurate

Weaknesses: Can not find some address with North/South, East/West Coordinates in the address. Need external volume button

Summary: Overall this is a very nice unit. I read some negative reviews on other web sites, but as we all know, most people only complain when something is wrong and seldom post a response when something is good. So I am bucking the system :)I have used other GPS units and software before, and found this to be a little nicer than the rest. The only negatives I found are the following:Can not find some address with North/South, East/West Coordinates in the address. (ie: W222 S3333 Anywhere drive)It would also be nice to have an external, or a quick access button on the screen for the volume. It also could be a little louder. Some roads are out of date, but this seems to be true with all units that i have used. This one is no worse than the others. It would be nice if it was a little easier to add another destination to a current route...I have to say I have not read up on this much, so maybe it is just my inexperience.________________________Everything else seems to work nice.Bluetooth....worked first time no problemPOI's .....tons of POI's ...very niceDestination time...more accurate than my last unitsWindshield Bracket...nicely made and works perfect. It would be nice if the power cord plugged into the base instead of the unit, but not a deal breaker.Very nice screen size and layout. (Could use a Glare Gaurd for direct sunlight)Overall I would recommend this unit to anyone. It is the best value I found, and I am very satisfied with it.If they fix the minor issue's I have mentioned, This unit will be the best out ther hands down.

Weaknesses: A little bit complex user interface and bluetooth connection problem with my motorola razor

Summary: It is very cheap and reliable GPS I've ever seen. But there are some requirements to improve this GPS to be top. But I really like this product with amazing price and accuracy. However the bluetooth connection problem with my Motorola razor is not only my problem.

Strengths: Excellent Price, very readable display, accurate where I am in Central FL,

Weaknesses: Bluetooth does not work. No accessories to be found easily beware, Support line has a nice vmail:) that you end up in, email support so far is more responsive. Battery is not swappable,

Summary: I purchased the Mio C520 as it seemed the best price/value on the market. Garmin's seemed much more costly and the others less reliable. So I settled in between. My opinion is while it seems to be a nice neat package it has flaws that you have to decide whether it is important or not. Suction cup mount...Right out of the box, I tried to use the suction cup mount and discovered it will not hold on flat surfaces other than a windshield? It loosens and falls over if you attempt to use it on say a table top. They include a funny little black plastic coaster which you are supposedly to stick to your dashboard (not my car thank you). Regardless I tested it and it will not hold to that either. However I stuck it to the windshield at it holds! Go figure?? The power switch...is quirky, you have to hold it down to get a screen that indicates shutdown or reset...I tap the shutdown but it seems to reset as the date and time are always wrong after you do it. If you tap the on-off switch, it just goes into sleep mode. What the true issue is I am not sure but I did report this odd behavior as maybe it is just my unit. Bluetooth...Tried to bond with my brand new Motorola RAZRv3 and it goes off into some Mio never-neverland. The phone indicates it bonded, but the Mio just has this cryptic "..waiting for device.." message that you cannot get out of unless you shutdown...and of course it resets! I have asked their tech support but I am sure it will be my phone that they will claim is the problem or "atmospherics". Not a big deal to me since it seems a lot more work to set up than to just flip open the phone and use it. Did not try using it with headphones (don't have any) so perhaps that works better. Accuracy...It was very accurate as far as I could tell locally. The speaking voice was ok for the most part. The display was crisp and relatively uncluttered. But the menus and logic I am struggling with. Trying to enter a destination seems to be a chore and not straightforward and confusing. But in fairness I have had it less than a week so we shall see. SImplicity it is not as others have indicated. The manuals...come in two parts, 1 for the hardware and 2nd for the software Mio Map. Both are on the CD so you have to print them or read them on a PC. The Hardware is better but both are obviously translations that sometimes make no sense. You'd think by now that someone who is more fluent in the particular language would proof it as this is clearly a European product. Accessories...if you are looking for a case or another mount, forget it. Nobody seems to carry anything for Mio's. I asked (tech support) about this and they directed me to a couple web sites and Mio has one but be prepared for sticker shock. I had to calculate from Euro's but it seemed that the cheapest, case they had amounted to $43 whereas you could get one for a Garmin or Tom-Tom for $10..everything was very pricey and mostly out of stock on there own web site. Something tells me that it is a work in process but why anyone would put a product out there and no aftermarket support escapes me. Overall in some areas this could be a terrific product, but in others it seems lacking. I'll see how the tech support deals with the bluetooth and power switch rest issue. Price is aggressive but the aftermarket support is not there at all. So I put this on the borderline. If Garmin meets them in price you are probably better off with the Garmin but it is good to have some competition. Perhaps the next generation will solve the problems but usually if you have less good experience, you are not likely to try it again.

Strengths: Display, movies, price, routing, usb charging

Weaknesses: No integrated traffic, won't work with Treo 680 phone

Summary: The Mio 520 is simply awesome. I have a Garmin Nuvi 660 and a Magellan 6000T. My brother lives on the same street and both of us are techies and pretty good at gadget analysis. He bought the Mio 520 today and both of us took a 100 mile round trip to the lake. I had my GPSs and he had the Mio 520. The ranking in order of preference: #1 ? Mio 520, #2 ? Nuvi 660 #3 ? Magellan 6000T. First, the Mio 520 was $400 from Circuit City. I paid roughly $700 for the Nuvi and $500 for the Magellan. The Mio really blows both of them away. First the display. It has EVERYTHING that you need on the display. The really widescreen format lets it put the map display on the left and the information panel stacked on the right. The top two panels have distance to turn and the direction arrow of the turn. You also have SPEED, Time of Day and Time of Arrival on the right main screen while you are navigating. I'm 51 so my eyesight isn't exactly eagle sharp. I can SEE the MIO screen better. The POI?s are amazing. I live on an exclusive gated residential 10 home street. The MIO found FOUR businesses on my street. They were all valid. Four of the houses had their businesses registered at their home address and they were in the MIO POI?s. This thing looks like it have every business phone book listing in the POIs. We checked several others including my own company which is NOT in the Nuvi or Magellan POI but it is in the MIO. We were stunned at the number of POIs. The MIO 520 reads my 8gb SDHC SD card. It plays mp4 movies. The voice and pronunciation is clear. It has route avoidance features that the NUVI does not have and it?s easier to get to than the Magellan?s route avoidance. It has tabs on the main screen that let you display the route in text on the right panel without bothering the navigation map display. I?ve owned about five gps units. Until the MIO 520, the NUVI 660 was the one I was most impressed with but not now. Even if the prices were identical, I would still prefer the MIO 520 by far but with a price of the NUVI double it is NO WAY I would buy another NUVI. The one drawback with the MIO is that the Bluetooth will not work with the Treo 680 but I believe that?s a function of Palm because the Magellan Bluetooth won?t work with the Treo 680 either. The NUVI works perfectly with the Treo though. The MIO 520 uses TeleAtlas maps instead of NavTeq but the review of the two map databases conclude they are pretty equivalent: http://www.gpsreview.net/navteq-vs-tele-atlas/ We found no routing differences of any concern between any of the units however the map display is far superior on the Mio over the Magellan but only slightly better than the Nuvi. The USB charging port also is a plus, you aren?t bound to proprietary chargers. The MIO did have the latest maps that were only a few months old. We did not have the traffic module. The Nuvi is great with its traffic antenna built into the charging cord. That makes it easy when changing cars, you only have the mount, unit and cord. The Magellan has a separate, FM dipole type antenna wire that has to run along the dashboard. Not cool! Overall, I?m putting my other GPSs on EBAY and getting the MIO 520. It is the best one at any price that I've ever used.

Strengths: Gives very good direction, fast reroute, ready to use out of the box, low price

Weaknesses: Software which come on DVD for transfering files doesn't work on my Windows XP.

Summary: Bought it few days ago from Circuit City. First of all similar in size was about two times the price of this one. Second, it takes much less space than a laptop. Third, it tells where you need to be at the moment to be able to make your turn. Did two days Family trip to San Francisco and spent twice less time than our friends for the driving inside the city. Didn't miss a turn there. Much safer and easier than a laptop. My first portable GPS and I love it.

Strengths: Newest map sets, user interface, very good receiver, text to speech good, getting you to destination in a smart way.

Weaknesses: Support not sure when traffic add-on will be available (not an acceptable answer IMO) or at what cost?

Summary: This GPS receiver is a pleasant surprise. I bought it from circuit city for $350 last week thinking I would not have it long. I was thinking of getting the Garmin Nuvi 680 but for about $400 more. The only thing that this unit does not do that the garmin does is include the FM traffic receiver. The Mio has not shown me any reason to take it back and spend the extra money. This will be a strong competitor for Garmin. The receiver is great. It was acquiring 7 sats inside my house walking around. It's routing algorithms are smartly done. I live in the Dallas/Ft Worth area, the new map sets have not let me down yet. The bluetooth handsfree even works. I tried it with my LG Fusic and it worked perfectly except that it's like speaking on any speakerphone, not very practical with any cabin noise, but it works. I then paired it with my Motorola S9 stereo bluetooth headset and surprise, it worked without a glitch. Could not get it to pair with my Palm 700P, but that's a Palm issue. You won't be disappointed unless you're really looking for small issues, considering the PRICE point. This is a great value! Ken in Texas.
