Reasons why I went for Nuvi was sleeker design, brand name, and mixed reviews on tomtom

Summary: Great unit for the price paid, works like a charm. Very easy to setup and start using. Maps quite accurate. I think it's overall a very good unit for the price I paid, better options available if paying full price.

Summary: I just got this day after thanksgiving and so far I am happy with it. I still have my built in GPS on my car but I like that I am able to carry this on any car. Gets signal fast and has beautiful bright screen although small compared to the built in one on my car.

Weaknesses: No Alaska/Canada maps (2008 maps have only lower 48 states), No Mapsource install DVD to manage POIs/waypoints, no included USB cable, no TTS (speaks turn directions but not street names), no traffic

Summary: This is my second Garmin GPS unit and I am quite happy overall with this purchase. It performs well for most purposes and is an economically priced entry level portable auto GPS with most features one would want.The screen has adjustable brightness and the UI is relatively easy to learn. Roads, ETA, speed and other screen elements are large and text is easily readable without squinting. Display automatically changes depending on day/night. It is WAAS-enabled and locks quickly and is relatively accurate in tracking your location, and finds the satellites quickly compared to my other older model GPS.The size is compact and fits easily into your bag or pocket and can double up as a portable pedestrian GPS. Voice prompts are clear but might take a little getting used to when it says "turn left then turn right"... The rechargeable battery lasts around 3-4 hours and can be charged via USB. (But the USB cable is not provided in the box!)Unfortunately the american version of this unit only comes preloaded with the North America Lower 48 states, Hawaii and Puerto Rico. The other models 250 and 270 come loaded with additional Canada and Alaska maps.My biggest sticking point with it is that it does not come with the Mapsource City Navigator North America NT Install DVD when my previous GPS unit did. The software allows you to upload waypoints and POIs from your PC to the GPS and view the maps and routes on the PC, finding addresses and points on your PC and is immensely useful also when upgrading and uploading new maps to the GPS. You may be able to call customer service to ask for this disk (YMMV) and you need to register your unit to get the unlock code.There are other smaller nice features like an SD card slot for additional memory (to hold more pics and maps), clicking the car icon for current lat/long and elevation, entering lat/long coordinates, putting JPEG photos on the unit and viewing it with the picture viewer, currency converter, calculator etc.If you prefer advanced features like bluetooth, TTS (where the street names are read out), traffic updates and routing (you need to pay monthly subscription), route uploading and tracklogging, you need to go for a higher end Nuvi model. I personally feel TTS isn't a big deal since the street names aren't read out properly anyway (due to limited text to speech technology) and it sounds robotic.This is a good buy. nuff said.

Summary: Recently went home much has changed. I've been gone many years. I liked the routes it provided for my various trips including routing through snow covered roads. With the many changes in roads homes, etc. I would have been lost many times. Instead the GPS got me where I wanted needed to go. It has been excellent in my current home town, too.

Summary: The community I live in is 2 yrs old. The map shows my street but it go to the address because they haven't updated the address range for the 2 yr old development.My wife and I were looking for the Babies R Us. The map took us to a location that move 1.5 yrs ago. It didn't have the newer address. Same problem with the local Home Depot. And all of this in Portland, not BFE!!!It's getting returned.

Strengths: Very easy to learn and use.

Weaknesses: Won't always give you the fastest or most direct route.

Summary: The only thing negative I can say about this product is that I found that while it seems to always get you to your destination, it doesn't always select the fastest or most direct route. I have found that in many occasions when I knew the best route, the gps would suggest longer routes that took more time.

Summary: my husband uses it everyday for his job. He is very impressed with how easy it is to use. We have also used it for a trip. He really likes the feature that if you make a wrong turn or miss a turn it automatically recalculates your route to your destination. He is like a little kid with a new toy.

Strengths: Plenty of necessary features for its price point. No subscription or additional equipment.

Weaknesses: My wife feels it doesn't verbally notify the driver of turns soon enough, but the distance to next turn is shown on the map and numerically on the screen.

Summary: This Garmin has everything a normal driver would need. It's easy to use and is ridiculously portable. It automatically adjusts your directions if you miss a turn. No regrets on this purchase.

Strengths: Very good alert messages in time while driving. All necessary features for a driver on the road available in this model.

Weaknesses: Does not have other facilities like connection to the cell phone, MP3 features etc. but these are not essential for a driver.

Summary: I like the product very much as it does help me while I drive to a new place and is able to recalculate if I ignore the prompts and drive in wrong route. A reliable friend on the road while driving. I will recommend to all drivers who just need someone to help them find their way to any new destination in North America.

Summary: After a year and a half of putting off this purchase decision, I finally broke down and bought a Nuvi 200 for my wife. My wife works as our local Humane Officer and, as such, is constantly scurrying about the county on calls to come rescue a wide variety of abused and neglected critters. She ABSOLUTELY LOVES this device! No more time lost searching for (often unreliable) internet directions / maps. The display on the Nuvi 200 is bright and clear, to the point that neither of us would recommend spending the additional money to "upgrade" to the widescreen version. Voice prompts are loud enough to be heard over the din of city traffic, radio deejays, and children in the backseat. The route calibration is quick and reliable; it works well both within the city and in rural areas. Though the Nuvi will occasionally drop you off 2-3 doors away from your target destination, it is acceptably accurate and always get you close enough to the intended destination that the driver can complete the voyage without any undue confusion. The points-of-interest function is so convenient that is has spawned a new family game where we all climb into the car and let the Garmin decide where we will dine that evening. Though the unit does not support text-to-speech (it will not pronounce street names, instead instructing you to "turn left in 50 ft.") and traffic functions, these are features that do not exist on any GPS device in this price range. Though this is our family's first GPS unit, we are so thoroughly impressed that Garmin has earned a pair of customer's for life.

Summary: The Garmin Nuvi 200 is a great value for those looking for basic navigation. Since moving to a new city, I have learned my way around the city very fast. After owning the Garmin Nuvi 200, I don't see how I ever made it without one!

Summary: I bought my Garmin Nuvi 200 after comparing it with similar priced units with similar functions. The only one that came close to the Garmin Nuvi 200 was the Garmin Sreet Pilot C320/30 and the Tom Tom One. But after reading some reviews on it I went with the Garmin and I couldn't be happier! It has the latest maps and great signal strength! I also went with the 7-9 day Free Shipping... I GOT MINE IN 4 DAYS!
