Strengths: Easy to read screen, easy to operate.
Weaknesses: A lot of issues. See comments.
Summary: This is my first gps nav system. When I bought it about 18 month ago I liked it, but then I face to more and more issues. When I went New York City this guy showed my position on map, but doesn?t realize where I am and showed: ?Proceed to the road? instead of street address, so navigation did not work. Voice guidance does not clear: it says ?Stay on road aytree eighteen? when I was on I 318 interstate highway. When I was in Florida and asked for shortest time direction from my hotel in Orlando to Kennedy Space Center it show about 150 miles and 1 hour 40 minutes, and shortest time - twice faster: about 55 mile, 55 minutes. Driving from Newark airport to my home in NJ ? about 35 miles, 38 minutes, Magellan gave me another way (using toll roads) ? 48 miles, 55 minutes. On time to time it lost satellite signal even in good weather, or calculate easy road long time. Sometime instead of right turn (where right turn aloud) it gave me: go forward about (2 miles), make U-turn, go back to this intersection, and make left turn (but left turn is not permitted there). I will not recommend this device.

Weaknesses: Magellen company. Misleading. Customer svc unknowing & un caring. Maps way out of date when purchased. Spell helper confusing & slows process. internal battery dead 14 mo. repair exceed replace value
Summary: I was looking for a GPS that would route multiple stops. magellen advertised their Roadmate 2200T would route multiple stops. before purchasing I called their customer service who assured me the 2200T would handle multiple stop routing. I specifically asked if coming to a strange city with 6 clients to find, would this unit route me so I would not be criss crossing back and forth accross the town - yes. My first trip to Kansas City, I entered my 6 clients not knowing where any were located. The 2200T took me to my clients as i had entered them, not in a route but accross town back and forth. One client was 100yards from the first stop on another street but i didn't get there until the 5th stop and 3 trip accross town. When i complained to their customer service the answer was "you want optimum routing, your unit doesn't do that". Six months after purchase, on a trip to Eau Clare, Wisconsin the 2200T did not include a major cross town highway I had driven on 3 years prior. Fourten months after purchase the unit started operating very slow to the point of being unusable. Cost to repair the internal battery $80.00 and did not include map update. that was another &80.00 plus $15.00 handling and shipping. The ultimate repair for this rip-off Magellen unit was to buy a Garmin. My advice - avoid any Magellen products.

Strengths: Bright screen, MP3, Photo viewer
Weaknesses: Street names on map do not always show up even at highest zoom.
Summary: As you zoom in and out of the map, some street names may not show up on the screen unless you pan the map right/left/up/down even though there is plenty of space to show on the screen. Some street names don't show up at all unless you double-click the line to get the name to show up. It would be nice to display as many street names on the screen as visibly possible in an easy to read manner. Also would be nice to give an option to align the street name to the street line rather than putting a point on the line.

Strengths: Reasonable price, user friendly and included all the function that I need. Especially the SmartDetour and QuickSpell fuctions that make the nativation easier. Bright display screen and fast processor.
Weaknesses: Slow transition at times, I live in Madison, and some area are not included in the map.
Summary: My wife has a TOMTOM in her car, comparatively RoadMate is cheaper with similar functions and user friendly. However, it is a little sluggish when switching between application screens. The screen is bright and easy to read, even in the sunlight. At night the background switches from white to black automatically, so it is not as bright in the car. These colors are customizable.

Strengths: -Actual "tone, tone" beeps at the turn location which is a feature I have only found on Magellan models. Helps when there are numerous turns close together. - Ease of setup and use.- Map clarity.
Weaknesses: Volume control should be on unit as a knob to turn up/down when passengers are present.
Summary: I tried out various systems but found the beep, beep at the street was a great help to know exactly what street to turn on when in areas of streets in close proximity. If I hear the "beep, beep", I know I had better have my signal on and be preparing to make the turn. And of course the announcement of street names is a major convenience. Love it!

Strengths: Good/correct navigation informationincludes AC and DC chargersNice compact weatherproof unit
Weaknesses: Touch screen is finicky - can get into wrong options because my finger is too bluntLimited to 1.5 million points of interest
Summary: This is my first GPS unit as I have been waiting for the right price and technology/feature set maturity. I use it mainly for the car but do ocassionally take it on my lunchtime walks to check out the stats (direction, speed, lat/long/alt)Navigation works well and gets me where I need to go correctly. I live in Southern California so that area is probably well mapped. The only weakness for me is the limited number of POIs. It is good to find restuarants, gas stations, etc, but lacks info on dept stores or businesses and you need to know what category to look in. Other Magellan units like the 3000T support 6 million POIs and I don't need to know the type of category and can punch in a name and it will search all categories. There is also no information from Magellan on how to obtain additional POI so I can put them on the optional SD card. I don't mind doing so if the info was available. No details in user's guide or web. Expanded POI is useless if average user doesn't know how to get list of coordinate info.

Strengths: Easy to use, worked right out of the box. Just turn it on, follow the quick start card, and you will be navigating.
Weaknesses: Points-of-interest, provided by Navteq on this unit, appear somewhat stale. A restaurant a mile from my house that has been there for 18 months is still not in the database.
Summary: You will enjoy it's clear screen, nice text-to-speech feature that announces streets, and fairly easy menus. You will read a lot on the web about people complaining about the user-interface, but I had no trouble. I am not placing it on the dash,it works fine on the console next to me. Very accurate at knowing position, quick first fix....you just need to drive about 200 feet and it is dead-on accurate from there. Automatic reroute fixes your mistakes in about 5 seconds, a very quick response/recalculation of route. It comes with almost EVERYTHING in the box you would need, contrary to what some consumer comments on the web say. You get AC cord, DC cord, mounting hardware for windshield and adhesive disk to put it on the dash or other surface. The only thing it doesn't include that you must have is some case to protect the screen when you carry it. Inexpensive digital camera cases at Target for $5-$20 work just fine...you don't need the Magellan one. One other drawback is there is no full manual included (you must download and print 52 pages IN COLOR). The support response on questions about upgrading to a crossover or adding traffic coverage was confusing at best. They never fully answer your question. I posed it twice online and once on the phone and then gave up. All accessories seem backordered, but that may be because it is new. Still, it's a great product.

Strengths: Good mount, bright screen, easy to use, portability, nice industrial design, good features like "reroute around slow traffic."
Weaknesses: Navigation gets confused, graphics average, does not guide to your destination on the "right."
Summary: Washington, DC, is ranked as the 2nd worst in the nation for major metro areas to navigate. DC has a height restriction limiting buildings to the width of the adjacent street plus 20 feet. A building on a 90-foot-wide street can be only 110 feet tall making the city very low buildings and a lot of open area. My 2200T was very confused. After I missed my destination because 2200T brought me in on the wrong side of a divided blvd, I had to circle and reroute for several blocks. It did not auto-reroute. 2200T then kept insisting I was at my destination when I was still one block over. TomTom One had my home street in its database (they use TeleAtlas digital data) but this unit did not (NavTech). I had heard that NavTech was supposed to be better for the U.S. but in this unit I could not plug in my home address. It said it did not exist.

Weaknesses: People have complained of the speakers being a little weak, personally, I have no complaints. Maybe their car is too noise.
Summary: I have a nuvi 360 which I love, I first got a TOMTOM ONE for my wife but I must say I regret it now. Too many limitations in the ONE if you compare to this one in the same price range. I tested this one for a week before deciding on it (lesson from getting the TOMTOM One) I have not had problems moving around Dallas TX and suburbs using this one and in Oklahoma as well. I think this is a great by if you do not want to fork out the money for NUVI. Can I compare to the NUVI 360? hard to do since they are almost $300 apart. The nuvi is great and thin, but I have to say that it does not offer the water resistance promise this one those. I will never regret buying the NUVI first, but boy would it be difficult now that I have seen and used this one at a much lower price.

Weaknesses: no manual, not all streets are on it. When email sent to support, takes a couple days to get response.
Summary: I bought this GPS unit for my husband, but have also used it in my vehicle. We like the way it mounts, and it is small enough to take with us if we leave the car in a place where we don't want anyone to see the unit.It is great for getting around traffic. We used the detour option and were very impressed. Sometimes my husband just uses the map.

Strengths: Compact, good battery life, easy to read screen, potential for use as crossover unit
Weaknesses: Questionable routing (someimes), somewhat skimpy POI's, no instruction manual
Summary: This is my first gps nav system, so Magellan not including an instruction manual is a sore point with me. It is supposed to be avaialble on line, but it is not and won't be for another 2 weeks or so (as per their tech support). On the positive side, the display is excellent, as is the clarity of the voice instructions. Routing and rerouting seems pretty quick. However, routing in the local area isn't always the most efficient way to go. The unit finds and holds a signal very well. It even locks on indoors. POI's appear pretty good, but are far from complete. For example, when I looked for a Barnes and Noble bookstore, it listed several that were over 8 miles away, but did not list the one that is about 3 miles from my home. I knew there would be some compromises when I purchased this unit, so none of the above was a surprise, nor a reason that would prevent me from making the same purchase again. I just didn't think it would be worth spending at least $200-$300 more to get slightly better routing or more POI's.

Strengths: Very good navigation, Easy to use, Easy to see, Text-to-speech voice directions, Small, Changes color at night, SD card slot for storage, MP3 Player, Picture Viewer
Weaknesses: Slightly sluggish between some menus, No manual online/packaged yet, Doesn't appear you can listen to MP3s while using navigation, No AC adapter packaged (only cigarette lighter adapter), Only USB 1.1
Summary: I have now used the 2200T for about 5 days. Prior to this, I used a 2000. I went with the 2200T because I wanted the Text-to-Speech for street names. In my short experience with this unit, I have been very impressed. The directions are very accurate, and the voice prompts and turns are clear and precise. The screen is bright and easy to read, even in the sunlight. At night the background switches from white to black automatically, so it is not as bright in the car. These colors are customizable. On screen while driving, your controls are as follows with one tap: Current position/Speed/Direction, Satellite status, Zoom in, Zoom out, Mute, Complete list of route instructions, Resay last command, Menu. I wish there was some volume control here, but that is accessed through a settings menu. The MP3 player appears to work fairly well with a couple complaints. There is no volume control that I see on the player interface. Thus you have to go through several menus to get to the volume. I would have expected easier control for the player. Also, it does not appear you can listen to MP3s while using the navigation. This may be addressed in the manual, but it is not out yet. Hopefully it will be on their website shortly, as this product was just released. You store MP3s and pictures on an SD card, using the slot provided. However, the USB on this thing is only USB 1.1, so it is a little slow transferring. I have not played with the picture viewer yet. The software for transferring the files is easy to install and very easy to use.The unit is fairly small, and fits in a man's pocket easily. It does not have the hump on the back, like some of the other brands have. It is flat on the back. The suction cup mount holds firmly to my windshield and is fine in my car. However, if you have a fairly deep dash, the mount may be short for you. You can suction it to your dash (or a piece is included which uses adhesive to stick to the dash and then the suction cup suctions to it). This is a little bit of sluggishness with this unit. I wish it came packaged with an AC adapter. It only comes with the cigarette lighter adapter. I may never use the AC adapter, but it would be nice to have. The battery life is supposed to be 8 hours, but I have not tested it.Overall I am VERY HAPPY with this unit and would recommend it to anyone. It has the features that cost $100-$200 extra on some of the other units.
