Strengths: Easy to use, clear and bright screen w/auto night mode that dims the display and flips the colors to "night mode." Synthasized street names. Ample volume, Multiple languages, male female voices.
Weaknesses: No plans to update firmware
Summary: Large and heavy by today's standards, only for car use. WAAS signal doesn't work becuase old birds are hardcoded in the firmware. Company will not update firmware to correct this even though model was only discontinued in January. That having been said, you will not find another unit that does so much for this kind of price.

Strengths: space (hard drive), accuracy (your location).
Weaknesses: Size, moves around even with the stand when in the car,
Summary: This is decent GPS system that will guide you to places pretty well. It gives you an accurate location of where you are and where you need to be headed. It does not have TTS, but it does tell you "turn right/left/keep straight/etc" in .5/1/2/etc miles. I couldn't figuire out the MAP update. It has no hands free bluetooth feature, and still pretty big and bulky. It shakes a bit, when driving, so it can be hard see where you are exactly. But a good system if you can get it for the right price.

Strengths: It is cheaper than buying a new car with navigation if you have a nice car without nav.
Weaknesses: Does not have a good flow. Loses signal and stops directing. It really doesn't have a good way to mount it. It has a long start up time, usually 4 to 5 mintues to find the satellites.
Summary: If you need nagigation the factory installed ones are much better. I have a 4 runner with nav and the magellan doesn't come close to that. I bought it for my TransAm Jag. It works, but you have have patience. It will get you there, but there sometime a satellite lag comes at the worse time.

Strengths: Excellent! I first discovered them in Hertz rental cars and found it fantastic. If you've ever been to a city or area you are unfamilar with, it's a life and time saver!
Weaknesses: NONE! Pretty much perfect in my opinion!
Summary: You can't beat the quality for the price. While it's not loaded with all the bells and whistles, it serves it's intended purpose well! Allows you to keep your eyes on the road while guiding you effortlessly to your intended destination! I recommend them to anyone especially if you conduct business out of town and want expedicious accurate directions to your POI!!!!

Strengths: You won't get lost
Weaknesses: No internal battery
Summary: This is a great companion to travel with on the road. It has a 20gb hard drive, where about 10gb is taken up. It uses GPS to track your exact location and follows you through your trip. It also can determine your speed... so watch out, we know you are speeding! It can show detours to avoid traffic jams and such. I rate this 4 out of 5 and not 5 out of 5 because it does not contain an internal battery. But everything else looks good so far!

Strengths: Very user friendly. I was able to operate without any issues. One needs just to be patient and read the hilighted prompts-Pretty simple. I have no sense of direction, this has been a god send!
Weaknesses: None that I have found so far
Summary: I'm looking forward to a long trip to see how it directs me in strange surroundings. Volume voice is loud clear The suction mount is adequate. I purchased a dash mount but have not installed yet. I like the portability and convenience that it can be used by several members in different vehicles as needed.

Strengths: The roadmate 760 is a good unit, when it works.
Weaknesses: Freezes up at start up.Service center is not very accomodating.Make sure you save your proof of purchase!
Summary: Bought mine in January 06. Would freeze up when first started in the a.m. Had to remove it from the cradle or unplug it from the power source to turn it off so I could reset it. After it warmed up it was good to go. Sent it back to Thales in TX on March 25 so they could repair this nuisance. Got it back April 19. Plugged it in and 6 hours later still couldn't capture a satelite signal. Called Thales 4 different times with no cure so now I'm sending it back a second time. In my opinion 3-4 weeks is too long to wait for service on an item this expensive, especially if it comes back worse than it left. So far I've been able to actually use it 2 of the 3.5 months I've had it and by the time I get it back again it will have a 4 month ownership with only 2 months use. Get the in store warranty for the extra $100. You may not need it but if you do it's well worth it. Eventually you may even get one that works right.

Strengths: Relatively easy to set up once you understand the mechanics. Recalculates routes very fast. I like it because it is small, portable and do not have to download any directions.
Weaknesses: No detailed instructional manual supplied, you can download it from the web. The manual does not contain a menu map which would have been useful.Limited toll free support.
Summary: When the unit was first turned on, it informed me that I was about 50 miles away from my actual location. I anticipated that the unit would set itself, since it supposed to be a plug and go system. No such luck, it needs to be programmed of your initial location or if you have taken it across the country to a new location. A frustrating experience since no manual was supplied and the unit also had a software glitch. Only after a call to the the customer support line, did I learn about the the intial set up requirement and the software problem. The unit was sent back, software was fixed and returned within weeks. Once it picks a route but you do not follow it, it recalculates route and on numeorus occassions it has informed me to make a safe legitimate U-turn on a highway! Since the unit is portable they should provide a portable dashboard or ventillator stand for it. The current stand has to affixed on the car and restricting its capabilities. For the price of the unit, Thales Navigation should include a color printed manual (with a quick easy menu map) and maintain customer support lines 24/7. After about 6 weeks of using it, I am beginning to like it inspite of its idiosyncrasies.

Strengths: Very fast to recalulate a new route when you missed your turn. Accuracy is by far the best compare to other brands. Speaker in the unit instead of on the power cord like Garmins.
Weaknesses: None
Summary: I used to own a Garmin Street Pilot III and I really enjoyed using that product. That was until I purchased the Magellan Roadmate 760, on a real long trip it would take 5 to 10 minutes for the Garmin Street Pilot 3 to recalculate a new route after I made a wrong turn, the Magellan 760 takes a few seconds. The 760 announce your turn the street name when 2 miles away, .05 miles away and .02 miles away and then a chime goes off just seconds before you turn. Unless you are doing something else that distract you it is almost impossible to miss your turn. The Garmin Street Pilot 3 took a while to enter a destination, while the Magellan 760 touch screen with spell check only takes a fraction of the time. My wife would never use the Garmin Street Pilot 3, she felt it would comfuse her more, she told me she would definitely use the Magellan Roadmate 760 with out a worry about getting lost. There are some other features in the Magellan 760 that are not advertised like the chime tones seconds before your turn, the unit has tutorals that will help you learn features in this unit and symbols on the screen that you touch that tells you the name and address of the place. The main reason I bought this unit compared to garmin new unit was the speaker in the power cord that keeps getting in the shifter way and a lot of bad reviews.

Strengths: This new version of the Magellan Roadmate has a wonderful new feature: verbal cues for the upcoming turns. This is great when you are trying to keep your eyes on the road.
Weaknesses: So far I have not noticed any weaknesses. I have the prior version of Magellan 700 and am giving it to my college-aged daughter who is directionally impaired!
Summary: I find all aspects of this new Magellan to be well worth the money I paid for it. I would recommend its purchase to anyone needing a simple-to-use GPS system.
