Strengths: maps
Weaknesses: Support, Warranty, Lock ups
Summary: I have owned the Magellan 6000T for 8 months. 2 months of that time it has not worked because of a poor design in the car power adoptor. I opened a support case 8 weeks ago, called every week for status of the warranty part, and have gotten nowhere. A support supervisir will not return calls as well. Besides the terrible customer service, the device locks up evey couple of weeks and forgets all the saved locations.I will never buy a product from Magellan again because of the worst "customer service" I have ever experienced in any industry. If you want a GPS, look at another brand all together.

Summary: From the time that I took it out of the box and installed it on my windshield lower left-hand asked not to obstruct my field of vision, I had only to drive short distance of about two or 3 miles before I was in love with this product. I especially love the feature at the end of your destination or when you're coming back home turning into your driveway when you hear the kind words telling you (YOU HAVE ARRIVED) The Magellan 6000 T. should be standard issue equipment for everyone who has a driver's license and in my opinion is more important to the use of an automobile than the steering wheel. It gives you so many ways to get to your destination if you do not know the address just type in the cross street and hit the points of interest it shortest route in Bam here they are. Anytime that you get off course it instantly knows and will constantly ask you for a new route and will issue it for you, hit yes it will find a new path for you. It Always gives you enough information audibly without being annoying, I quickly found out that you really do not have to continue to watch the screen or what is coming up next though it is mesmerizing. Just listen to your copilot and she will never steer you wrong. My only complaint is that the voice prompts needs to have the different system of delivery. The small speaker quite frankly is just not loud enough if you were listening to the radio. Actually I would like to see a wireless FM transmitter built into the unit where it would announce all voice prompts through the car audio stereo system through any unused FM stations on the lower band, for example 88.1,88.3 or 88.5 or 88.7 actually it would be very easy to do. I noted that some others had negative views of the Magellan 6000 T. as in customer service or non-updated maps, all I can say is as of September 2007 it would appear that those issues have been addressed. Navigation systems in automobiles are practically commonplace and I have used them but to be honest the Magellan 6000 T. is far superior in its complexity ease-of-use and accuracy than the best navigation systems that I have seen or used including Lexus and Mercedes. As far as the buttons on the side and on the top I have found them useful as it is a backup system, other GPS systems will on occasion freeze or lockup when you were using the touchscreen and that did happen to me one time so all I did was use the navigation buttons instead of the touchscreen and problem solved. I now use my Magellan 6000T as my security blanket.

Strengths: Good GPS maps, lots of extras, Magellan brand reputation, Text-to-speech, Bluetooth, etc.
Weaknesses: A bit bulky and pricey!
Summary: The GPS works very well compared to some other mapping systems, and uses the SIRF chipset for quick satellite locking. Text to speech is handy. Only complaint is that it is kind of a bulky design compared to some of the "newer" models coming out now. But, since it's used in your car, it probably doesn't matter that much.

Strengths: Screen size, zoom capability, scrollable views, ease of address entry
Weaknesses: Battery life, age of supplied maps, updating the unit.
Summary: I received this as a Christmas '06 present after doing substantial research on the web. I do not drive for a living so I do not use it every day. I am thinking of putting it on my motorcycle but have not done it yet. I read several reviews that state it takes a long time to acquire your position- Not for me. It found my position within 10-15 seconds. I live in Orange County, CA had no problems. I've used it on a recent trip to the mountains to find an obscure address it had no problems. I've used it to find local restaurants other POI's (Points of Interest- which you can look up or input yourself if they are not in there) with good success. I've noted 3 weaknesses: Battery life, the age of the supplied maps updating the unit. When you are not running it on the cigarette lighter, it will last for about 1-2 hrs. I've also noticed the maps are not as up to date as I would have liked. Some POI's that have only been around for the past year or 2 were not in the unit but as a fix, I can always put them in myself if I wanted to see them. I went to the Magellan website to search for updates found one. I'm not sure if I did something wrong or what happened but I'm going to have to send it in to get updated (under warranty). Moral of the story, read the directions follow them EXACTLY. I really like the large screen size and the ease of navigation with the touch screen. I've played around with the zoom find this useful when I want to see either a bigger picture of where I'm going or to zoom in more to see what POI's are around me. One of the views shows your speed, direction elevation- I personally like this view- if for nothing else, it can help you to determine how accurate your speedometer is. When displayed, it is actually in a split view with the speed/elevation/direction on the left half of the screen and a smaller scale map on the right. I didn't read the user directions when I first got it to see if I could figure it out. For the most part, I've done just about everything without reading the instructions. I did break down to read what certain things mean (even though you can still figure them out) and what was the "right way" of doing things so I didn't have to press too many buttons. I think they should have included an AC power cord but they talk about the Li-Ion battery...blah, blah, blah. They should have thrown it in. I have not used the free traffic service yet so I can't comment. I have used the bluetooth features. My Nokia 6102i paired up with it with no problems. The sound quality is OK but could be better. I do like the pop up key pad on the unit when you select dialing. You are not able to upload your phonebook to the unit- a bummer. That would have been a "nice to have........" The previous address feature is nice when you want to go back to a location didn't write down the address like you should have!! Overall, I like the unit very much. I'm very satisfied with its features capabilities. I purchased mine through a sale at Compuplus but Costco offers excellent everyday prices. If anyone has any further questions, reply to this review. Happy hunting.

Weaknesses: High price and its weight. But you pay for what you get
Summary: Got this GPS unit and began to use it everyday on my car. Easy to use and set up. just recharge it and turn it on. It works pretty well. It uses new SiRF III chips which is the best GPS receiver so far. It has lot of functions, like 2D/3D view, which is cool. I like it very much and carry it with me everyday when I drive my car. It also includes blue tooth function for you to use cell phone when you driving. Overall, this is the best GPS unit I used so far. So I recommend it to all of you.

Summary: After I bougth this GPS unit, I take it everyday with me when driving. This is a very good GPS unit. Very easy to set-up and use. Take couple of minutes to initialize satelite reception and then ready to go. It can provide 2D/3D view of map and turn by turn Text to speech,auto-rerouting. I like its big 3.5? screen and its street/turn directions are very clear in navigations. Also, cell phone blue tooth and mp3 playing is another plus. I like this unit and it's highly recommended.

Strengths: Touch screen, talking street names, MP3, and bluetooth
Weaknesses: Maps kind of old
Summary: This is really a good unit with a lot of nice features like MP3 and bluetooth. This device also talks street names. I did notice that it takes a little bit longer to acquire signal than Garmin C320. It is also bigger than C320. If the price drops down to $300, then go for it. Otherwise keep your Garmin.

Strengths: Product does everything adverising states, A Plus for the product.
Weaknesses: Poor company support
Summary: Product is good-- though I would like to be able to search POI's, rather than scroll the lot-- but that's a bit picky. Real issue is customer support-- they don't have any-- once again a good company dumps its customers into the "lap of 3rd world service" farming out their customer/tech support to people that can't really help or don't know how--( You know, I can sit on the phone for seemingly hours holding and read the manual just like their service reps do to me---But then again-- that's why I called --because the manual is unclear!!). Couple that with information that is completely inaccurate-- example, page 77 of the 6000T manual states that when you "pair your devices" in order to enable Bluetooth recognition, use the recommended default 0000 key-- UUUUUANT-- that doesn't work --any other number combination does; but not that one!! So if you want a decent product and want to "roll the dice" on whether you will ever need their clueless substitute for customer support-- knock yourself out and buy their product -- its OK-- I weighed my purchasing decision between the Roadmate 6000T and the Garmin 660-- had I known about the 'support issue" with Magellan-- I would have gone Garmin!-- just a word to the wise.

Strengths: Fairly easy to set, multiple stops. Good selection of POIs available.
Weaknesses: Freezes, not always best route used, definitely has glitches, clucks when touched or moved.
Summary: Returned first because it froze at the same spot, threw in U turn instructions in middle of freeway, same places for these events. Replacement did the same thing and same spots, did not return as 30 days up at store. Also took us at least 30 miles out of our way after selecting shortest time, actually took 40 minutes longer than should have. Bulky, have to watch where you touch it. First unit was hard to remove from mount, second comes off much easier. This is our first navigator and other than the glitches it would be OK. Hoping company can provide patch. Manual had to be downloaded, not in a convenient form and badly written. Traffic conditions not too helpful. Got a vent mount and that's satisfactory. Vast array of destinations available.

Tomtom and Garmin don't have all these options in one unit. You have to either give an option up or wait for their upgrades. I researched the net for weeks and realized the 6000T has everything you could ask for in a GPS receiver. I've used it about a dozen times and it's gotten me there problem free. Strengths: Sattelite acquisition very fast, even when movingRe-route works very wellVoice is very clear and easily understoodBoot up is quick
Weaknesses: It is large but then I'm riding in a car when I use it so, who cares?
Summary: I have just returned from a 2,500 mile, triangular trip using this unit for the first time. I bought it 1 day before we left home. It performed flawlessly. I drove from Texas through St. Louis; Dayton, OH; Allentown, PA; Ottawa, Canada; Detroit, Mich; Mackinaw, Mich; Green Bay, WI; St. Paul, MN; Fargo, ND; Omaha, Neb; Kansas City, Mo; Oklahoma City, Ok and back to Texas. The driving was a mix of Interstate, rural road and city. This unit handled all these situations without a hitch. The POI function has found us restaurants and movie theaters, as well as tourist attractions with no problems. I have not used the mp3 player or photo viewer and probably never will. I have other equipment to handle those tasks. While in Emmaus, Pa the unit was tested in the extreme. It's a very old city with lots of very short streets intersecting at odd angles. My cousin, who lives there, was very skeptical that it could find a local address, much less give me an efficient route to get there. It took exactly the same route that my cousin uses to get to the location. He was shocked. Maybe I'm too easy to please but, for me, this unit is a total winner. Oh, I don't have any trouble getting the unit on and off the bracket.

Strengths: Bright display, Text to speech, Auto rerouting, Smart Detour, QuickSpell, Bluetooth, Route optimization exclusion and integrated traffic receiver.
Weaknesses: Still too heavy bulky to be considered a truly portable unit, poorly designed button placement, difficult to remove from mount.
Summary: This is the fourth GPS unit I've used and it's easily the best of the Roadmate series to date. It's packed full of useful features not found on other units such as QuickSpell, SmartDetour, Route Optimization / Exclusion, SmartVolume and Auto night view. It even has an integrated Traffic receiver built-in whereas other units have this available as an option at additional cost. Of course, it has Text to Speech and BlueTooth capability as well as a MP3 player and photo viewer. Another plus is the built-in patch antenna unlike other units which have to flipped open and positioned. On the negative side, it's still too heavy and bulky to carry with you. My other GPS unit (NuVi 350) shows that a solid performer can be still be totally portable. Another issue I've encountered is the release from the windshield mount, on more than one occasion I've had to remove the entire mount just to get it to release. The poor ergonomic placement of the buttons doesn't help the situation either. Overall, it's a very good performer with minor flaws. The new SiRF III chips are a big improvement and acquire satellites much faster. Both Garmin and Magellan still need improved routing algorithms but will always get you to your destination, just not always the best or fastest route.

Weaknesses: slow to lock in satellites, MP3 skips - YES - skips, bluetooth does not always connect and Hands free is garbled. new: Too many external buttons
Summary: I've had this for 1 week, I like the style and the display is very clear, directions are very clear and accurate. But when I first started to use it the satellites were slow to lock in sometines it took 5-6 min to locate the satellites it does ask if you are in a parking lot or building, if you reply NO it says "I'm having problems locking in a signal". MP3 skips - YES - skips like a record if you are playing MP3's while using the navigation or maps. I'm pretty savvy with the tech toyz so I would not recommend this.UPDATE: It has now been 5months, I added the fact that there are too many external buttons which means no matter how you hold it you will press a button (except when it lays flat on your hand) and my opinion has not changed
