Strengths: Easy to use, reasonably user friendly

Weaknesses: Outdated maps

Summary: We just bought our Tomtom only to find that the maps for our area (Central Virginia)are out of date by at least 14 months. A new expressway that opened 14 months ago is not reflected. As a result, all of the directions toward the city where we do our major shopping, go to the doctor, etc. would have us going by an old much more time-consuming route. The manufacturer claims they are about to issue new maps but these(1)will be priced, in a special introductory offer yet, at $50 plus SH and (2) will be available on DVD only (our computers have CD drives only). I can't quite get my mind around having to pay for updating a brand-new product and, at that, having to scrounge around to find someone with a computer that has a DVD drive. As a result, our Tomtom is at this very moment on its way back to where we bought it. Bottomline: looks like a decent product if you don't care how long it takes you to get to where you are headed.

Strengths: Ease of Use

Weaknesses: Very Outdated Maps

Summary: Although I was very happy when I purchased this unit, I have to say it is dated by now and Tom Tom is not doing anything about updating the maps. Main Roads in NYC are called unnamed roads. As far as I remember the Harlem River Drive is around a good couple of years and should not be an unnamed Road. Developements built 5 years ago in central NJ do not show up on this unit. When I complained to Tom Tom via their support on the net there was no response. Would not buy again

Strengths: Quick destination entry, good screen when not in glare

Weaknesses: It's either all of Canada or all of US, never any combination. No backup of US map provided. Screen susceptible to glare.

Summary: I'm a short drive from Canada but several days drive from the eastern half of the US. So why doesn't this GPS allow me to have all the maps for a day drive between the US and Canada but insists on me having the maps for states or provinces that are five days drive away from me? Yes, you get the US preloaded on the SD and Canada available on the CD, but you have to swap one for the other (don't forget to save the US map first - TomTom doesn't bother to provide a CD backup!) and can't have appropriate parts of both loaded at once. If you live near the US/Canada border I strongly recommend against this GPS.

Strengths: Very detailed maps, clear voice instructions and easy to use.

Weaknesses: Locating a point of interest such as finding a COSTCO isn't as easy as it should be.

Summary: I have had my Tom Tom 300 for a month now. I just completed a 5 state driving vacation. The Tom Tom worked great. Finding back roads in Utah, Wyoming and Colorado was a breeze. Even places that were way off the beaten path were a breeze to locate. The talking directions worked great. Most of the time, you didn't have to even look at the unit. My only complaint was that at times the sun washed out the screen and locating points of interest if they aren't one of the main types listed took a little time. I would strongly recommend buying this unit or it's upgrade the 510 when it comes out next month.

Strengths: Easy to use, helpful voice instructions, portable and fast charging.

Weaknesses: Not updated on new roads and route. Difficult to secure on the dock. Takes time for GPS location.

Summary: I love this Tom Tom. I got this version cause its cheaper and I don't need to additional options. I use it for my homecare, just type in the address and your on your way. I never leave home wihtout it. More helpful on giving alternative routes. I had an interview one time, it was traffic. It gave me a new faster route, finally got there.Downside is the difficulty for docking and time to reset on location.Other than that, the best. My friend got his Garmin streetpilot and he needed to return it back cause of problems.

Strengths: Screen

Weaknesses: Accuracy of data

Summary: I've used this device for over a month now and it consistenly sends me the wrong way and missreads my current location. I had a Garmin before and was very happy with it, I then 'upgraded' and wished I hadn't. Could be that I've got a dud one! Would NOT recommend

Strengths: Excellent user interface, touch screen is great, graphics are wonderful

Weaknesses: Customer support is abysmal if you have a problem

Summary: After a lot of research, I purchased this little doodad because I got tired of getting lost and pulling over to consult a map. The first one I bought on ebay and it didn't work - the return process is a whole other story. I then bought a new one at a regular e-retailer and it works great, no glitches. There have only been a few minor discrepancies between the computer's maps and the real world. The fastest route isn't always the real fastest route either - there are times when I know I can get somewhere quicker because I can avoid traffic and stoplights by taking an alternate route. To be fair to the Go 300, it can't know everthing! Otherwise, route calculations are fast and accurate. The main problem is with customer support. One of the reasons I chose the Go 300 was the ability to download different voices. Trivial, but I like little extras like that. I am still trying to deal with their support, and after 7 phone calls over a month's time, still no voice. My online order for the optional voice never went through, despite reaching a screen saying it was authorized. When you call support, they take your information and forward it to a 'level 2' center that then calls you back a day or two later. This person then said he would email the voice to me, but that never happened. Call them back, then play phone tag trying to get back to the 'level 2' center. I'm still dealing with this, and honestly who has the time to deal with this nonsense. Give me a number where I can talk to someone who will solve the problem. It's not that hard to email a file with the voice. It makes me wonder what would happen if I had a real functional problem with this device.

Strengths: First off, its touch screen. One of the easiest navi to use.

Weaknesses: Dont work too well if you have your top down on your car, due to direct sunlight.

Summary: Overall, I did my research and chosen the tomtom over the other company Due to the fact that it look cool and there was a year free of live traffic update. It was ready to go right after you got it out of the box and charge it up.

Strengths: Easy to use

Weaknesses: Did not recognize major interstates in OHIO. Rt. 71, Rt 90, and Rt. 77 were either misnamed or not anywhere on the maps. Kind of sad that it could not manage to get from Cleveland to Columbus.

Summary: Very upset with tech support. On line support did not reply at all after 3 weeks of waiting (still waiting) phone tech support finally answered after 2 days and said they did not have to include the interstates. Huh??? Said some other totally moronic stuff about their product and our expectations. We only wanted to get from here to there. We had no desire to drive on non-existent roads, swim in a canal, or make a left turn across 4 lanes of interstate into a cornfield. The topper was the insistance that we get off the main road. (Yes, we had it set correctly!)Can't believe so many people had no problem with this lemon. BTW, we tried two different units and checked with someone else's unit besides. None of them recognized normal interstates.

Strengths: Great right out of the box, ease of use

Weaknesses: some adresses are not located

Summary: I run a commercial service truck for my HVAC business 7 days a week.I don't know how I got around Los Angeles without it.I've used "The Guide" for over 20yrs and this thing just revolutionized the way I get around town. With it I can even tell my customers when I'll arrive. (it gives you an ETA on the display, barring any traffic of course)Will re-calculate your route any time and place. Gives you the option to view the route by text,3-D map demo of route turn by turn, and a couple others. Doing a job in an unfamiliar area and need lunch for the crew?No problem, just punch in the POI (points of intrest) and select restarants, voila you're in. Absolutely THE BEST! The only problem is on occasion it cannot find the specified address in the selected area, sometimes this is due to zip code error on my part, but a couple times it has come up bunk.So far I have been able to just select an address relatively close numerically, and been ok. Also after sitting over the weekend, I had to re-set the SD card by pulling it out and turning the unit off then on.This solved a small glitch when the Tomtom kept re-routing the address over and over again. These small problems aside, I would buy this thing ten times over again.......

Strengths: Pre-load Maps, Battery Life, Easy to use

Weaknesses: Screen does get washed out in direct sunlight.

Summary: This is great. I just travelled from Texas to New York and not once did it go wrong or even lose the signal. I use it almost everywhere I go, and it's great for someone who's new to a place. The device itself is perfect, and there are only a couple of features I'd like to have added to it - an option to change the instant that the voice gives the direction (I'd rather it tells me way in advance when to make a turn/exit), and being able to be told by the voice which street to make the turn/exit on (it does of course, mention it in the display but it would be nicer to hear it while driving sometimes.)

Strengths: touch screen, easy menus, clear voice directions, comprehensive maps, battery powered option

Weaknesses: in bright sun somewhat hard to read

Summary: First of all, the Tom Tom helped make our trips more fun because when I was driving we avoided the usual wife as reluctant navigator syndrome ("but I'm not good reading maps"). Not once on our summer vacation in driving from Michigan thru Canada and to Rhode Island over to NY and back did either of us say I'm not sure which way to go or where to turn. It was sooo nice.Only a few times did the Tom Tom get a little confused like when we were on the George Washington Bridge approach stuck in NYC traffic Tom Tom thought we were on the overhead streets and started to tell us how to get back on the highway. But in 9 days on the road, thru 8 States and Canada the maps and navigating was almost flawless. It took a little extra to load the Canada maps onto a second SD memory card, but the maps for the all the USA come already on a GB memory card included with the machine, and they are very complete. It even has millions of POI (Points of Interest) from gas stations to hotels and restaurants - with phone numbers. All in all it is a great device - with battery power I am also looking forward to trying it on bike trips and hikes. Overall, I highly recommend it.

Summary: Just got this a day ago. Works right out of the box. No syncing parts of maps. I have seen some negative reviews, but don't understand them. I live on a road that is only a couple year old and it is in there...Documentation is GREAT, but the detailed doc is on the CD. Only a "Quick Start" guide is provided on paper. I'll leave more info after our vacation next week. A few hundred miles of driving in a few states should help test out the unit.

Strengths: Voice quality and on-screen clarity are excellent. I especially like the road view as if seen through the windshild, rather than the bird's-eye view of other software.

Weaknesses: None so far.

Summary: It blows me away that on a 1 GB SD card maps for the entire US and points of interest can reside. This is something that used to take 6 CD's and cost $1,200 or so. The crystal-clear quality of the voices -- it's up to you to choose which of more than 15 languages you want your cues in -- is remarkable, and the map software gives you an excellent view at a glance on a diamond-sharp screen that is visually uncluttered. An excellent navigator, and the price makes this a no-brainer purchase.

Summary: I love this unit I am directionally handicapped. Can't find my way out of a paper bag. This unit takes me where I want to go. I went from the Orlando airport to my mother's house in FL. An impossible task for me. Made it with mo problem. It has a 4 hour built in battery which allows you not to have to use the cigarette lighter plug on short trips.
