Strengths: Size, multi format, easy setup, easy interface, rock steady playback.
Weaknesses: I can't find any, yet.
Summary: A great little playerThe Philips DVP3982 is a very good player. I have played everything I have and it played them all. Philips has a firmware upgrade for this player. After I upgraded it, (witch only took two minutes) the player was the a little better when it came to the DVD tray, (a little faster opening) HDMI was better after the upgrade. I read that people are having problems with ?Disc Errors?; I didn?t find any errors with this player. I bought two at Costco and both are running great. It also plays PAL DVD?s without any problems. It was very easy to setup (HDMI and Component) and the interface was very easy as well. The main reason a replaced my old DVD player was because it would not play DVD+R PAL DVD. This one can play PAL on both formats DVD+R/W and DVD-R/W. I highly recommend this player if you have a lot different formats and European DVDs.

Strengths: who knows
Weaknesses: tried to play many different discs and keep getting "no disc" message
Summary: Obviously this unit is broken and never worked from the manufacturer. Even though it was "only" $50.00 I expected it to work out of the box. I will never buy a Phillips product again. Nothing against 6Ave. They have always been very nice and helpful and the prices are almost always right, as long as you know what you are buying. Now I have to waste another couple of hours of my life to return it and then to try to find something else to buy.

Strengths: Compact size, good remote control, quiet, and plays an assortment of video formats.
Weaknesses: When disc door is opened, you must slide the DVD onto the tray. In other words, door doesn't open all the way out compared to other DVD players.
Summary: I purchased this Philips DVP3982 DVD Player from Circuit City this past summer. It plays standard DVD's and up-converts them to fill the flat screen TV, as long as you use the HDMI cable hook-up. DVD's will play near Hi-definition this way. As a bonus, this Philips player also plays discs that use the .MP4 and .avi video formats. I can take my standard DVD and using the PC, convert them to MP4 and AVI formats. These are compressed versions of the original DVD which can also be played on an IPOD and the Insignia Pilot media player. I can then put maybe 10 movies on one DVD disc and play it on the Philips DVD player.

Strengths: A beautiful little machine. Nice and compact and fits almost anywhere. Picture and clarity are great and this little gadget is so light.
Weaknesses: None
Summary: This DVD player replaces a Toshiba which cost fifty percent more and didn't play as well as my new Philips DVP 3982. As a non-techie type, the set up was a snap since it took me less than 15 minutes to hook everything up. I have played numerous dvd movies and the picture quality and clarity are absolutely wonderful. This is my first Philips purchase and it performs better than other well known brands i.e. Toshiba, Panasonic and Zenith. I just cannot get over the size and compactness of this little beauty. I hooked it up to my new 32" Olevia HDTV and the DVP3982 works like a charm. I am tickled pink at how well it works and the low price I got from Circuit City.
