Strengths: Affordable, Good picture

Weaknesses: Too wide

Summary: All my standard DVDs play as 480p. I've tried all the settings but it stays the same. However, movies look very good on this player. Not quite as good as HD but close to it. Movies look much better than standard definition programming from the cable company. This unit is black and attractive but is too wide. Perhaps Panasonic should have made it a bit more compact. The Viera link works well with my Panasonic LCD HDTV.

Strengths: Audio quality

Weaknesses: HMDI setup

Summary: While this upconverting DVD player had excellent audio output when played through my Yamaha receiver, it would not upconvert any DVDs through the HDMI connection on either of my Toshiba HDTVs. I attempted to change the HDMI settings on the DVD player, but for some reason, it would not allow me to make any alterations whatsoever to the HDMI video output (despite the manual's diagrams and claims). I had to return the worthless unit. Please note that I have since tried two other upconverting DVD players and have encountered no difficulties at all with upconversion on the aforementioned televisions.
