Strengths: Excellent Video Quality, USB input for Photos or MP3 music, Black Exterior, Coax Digital and Toslink options for Audio, Plenty of Video Out Options

Weaknesses: Wish it could play VCD format (LG does not claim to)

Summary: My LG DN798 is hooked up to a standard 27" TV using the most common composite RCA cable for video, and I am impressed with the picture quality. It simply looks great. * Deep blacks, realistic color tones, and sharp details are all present when watching DVDs on this sleek black player. I wish I could experience the upconverting capability of the DN798, but that will have to wait until I upgrade to a HDTV. * Composite, S-Video, Component and HDMI video outputs have you covered no matter the type of television set you own. Another nice feature not found in many DVD players is having both Coax and Optical Toslink audio output options for connecting to a home theater receiver. It's usually one or the other, so the flexibility is a plus for passing through DTS and Dolby Digital signals. * The only downside I can think of is the lack of support for VCDs (Video CDs). Not a devastating loss, but it is disappointing that LG chose not to have it. * Don't hesitate to buy the DN798 if you want a beautiful picture. Pop in a usb drive and you can even look at your jpg photos or listen to MP3s. Life's good.

Strengths: sleek - slim style price - clearanced at circuit city for very good price, can change resolution easilyhas USB interface. plays recorded dvd discs

Weaknesses: picture quality not as good as upconversion by HD-DVD or Blu-Ray players

Summary: Good value for price.worth the clearance price easilyuse HDMI for better pic quality.the tray for loading discs is very delicate, be careful not to break it.remote has lot of buttons for several functions but lacks back light. The button to change resolution is right on the DVD player, makes it easy to change.

Strengths: Picture quality

Weaknesses: Sound quality

Summary: I bought this unit because of favorable review and rating from Consumer Report. The picture seems better than my old Toshiba but the sound quality is sub-par - lacks punch, guess you cannot expect too much at this price point. I wish it could play VCD and DivX format though.

Strengths: Solid picture (1080p)HDMIThin line design

Weaknesses: Cd tray is flimsySmall remote - no back light

Summary: Solid upconverting DVD Player for a small investment ($60). The player is a thin line design that can fit into almost any entertainment center I have seen. Plus the player allows to you to select the resolution level (i.e. 480i/p, 720p, or 1080i/p). There is one HDMI slot that is key for simplifying the cable nightmare. As stated above beware of the cheap flimsy DVD tray, it seems like it is going to break every time I touch it. Also the remote is fairly small compared to my last DVD player's remote (SONY). The remote also does not have a back lighting, so I have to constantly turn on the lights during/after the movie to pause/remove the DVD.Even with the remote issues and the flimsy DVD tray, I would still recommend this player for anyone who is not ready to jump to HD-DVD or Blue-Ray. Excellent bang for the buck, that will get me thru till I want to update my DVD collection to Blue-Ray.

Strengths: Cheap compared to other sources putting out 1080i/p, supports HDMI, composite, and component as well as digital audio outs. This player looks very sleek and stylish compared to my old player

Weaknesses: The remote is not back lit so I had to keep turning the lights on to see what buttons to push. The included cable was only a composite; I feel it should have came with at least a component set of cable

Summary: This player is great if you don't want to make the switch yet to HD DVD or blue ray. I refuse to move to the next platform unless they standardize it. This player will support USB to play through pictures and music. It also recognizes DVD- or DVD+ as well as RW media. The remote features many buttons which used to be hidden in sub menus on my old player. I received this player as part of a promotion with an LG 32LC7D. I'm still waiting on my HDMI cable to try out simplink but I may not even use it. If your looking for an up converting player then I definitely recommend this one, but as with most AV equipment you'll need to buy some cables to take advantage of its full potential.

Strengths: Works as expected, has component/HDMI out for video and optical out for audio, which some cheaper DVD players don't have. Upconverts to 1080p but also supports 720p, 1080i, etc which most have.

Weaknesses: Only the remote, which is not backlit.Paid $80, which is reasonable. There are other upconverting DVD players that cost $120-$150 and I don't see how they could be much better.

Summary: Purchased on sale at Best Buy and haven't regretted it. I purchased it for a 32" Vizio that I put in my bedroom and the picture quality is very good. The TV also displays that it is upconverting to 720p when I change to the component video source. I used component vs HDMI because I had extra component cable and didn't feel the need to buy an extra HDMI.Not much more to it - the product also has a USB interface for media file sharing but I haven't used it yet and likely won't.
