Strengths: Plays DivX files very well.Cheap.

Weaknesses: Only progressive scan component video out for 480p quality output.Only coax digital audio connection - no optical out.

Summary: Already having a Sony upscaling DVD player and an Xbox 360 for playing DVDs, I bought this unit strictly to play DivX files burned to CD/DVD. It's cheap in price, has basic HD connections, but most importantly, it plays DivX files extremely well. The quality of DivX material I've viewed with the player is easily equal to, if not better than, the quality of the same video files playing on a PC and monitor setup. I can burn 6 full-length DivX-encoded movies to a single DVD-R and so far this player has played every DivX file I've thrown at it. For the money, this DivX player can't be beat. If you need upscaling, HDMI, optical out, etc., Philips makes higher end models than this one with those features.

Strengths: ease of operation, multiple formats supported

Weaknesses: haven't found any yet

Summary: I selected this unit to fit smaller spaces, most others are deeper and wider. Why this is so, I cannot understand. It so far has performed exceptionally well, I use it to play pre-recorded DVD's, some of which I've reproduced to play in the car on trips as well as other locations without risking damage to original. At Bestbuy, it cost 39.99 regular, and 35.99 on sale @ Bstbuy.com (store will do price match if asked).

Summary: I already had DVD player before. I was very happy with my unit but I couldn't play DivX/Xvid AVI files burned onto CD-R media. So I purchase this unit to watch my burned DVDs. The best thing about this player is, very compact, the sound is just too good, Video quality is also amazing. It is defenitely one of the best unit for this price. It almost have all basic features of DVD players. I am very happy with the unit as I can watch my all Dvd now. Cool buyer with Cool price.

Strengths: small, thin, Can play multi-formats

Weaknesses: the button are way too small

Summary: The thing is very cool looking. Thin/slim, plays practically any disc format. Impressed with HDMI digital video and audio connection. However, the button are way too small, you must use the remote control, or it's hard to find the right button from the machine.

Strengths: Sleek, Divx compatible, Cheap

Weaknesses: Remote is not very impressive

Summary: I got this one for around $40. Plays Divx pretty well. Its sleek. It can run multiregion DVD easily. I have a transferrable job so I can take this in any country as it supports NTSC and PAL.This is my second DVD Player. First one was DVP5140-Philips. I cannot tell the difference between the two. This one is smaller and cheaper. I found that feature wise both are same.

Strengths: Inexpensive player that plays DivX, MP3/WMA, JPG files alongwith VCDs and DVDs.

Weaknesses: Remote is not intuitive, especially using it to Open/Close disc.

Summary: This is a quite inexpensive DVD player, I got mine for less than $40. It supports a variety of formats. Plays DivX files very well. The only drawback is the remote, which takes time to get used to. There is no Open/Close button on the remote, but holding down the Start button seems to do the trick. Also, it is quite slim and looks sleek. On the whole, a pretty good DVD player that is inexpensive as well.

Strengths: Cheap, Sleek looks and lightweight. Home made DVDs played fine.

Weaknesses: Makes sound while playing the DVD. The remote does not have the eject/close button. The LCD display looks cheap. The file names gets trukated. No S-Video output.

Summary: This DVD player that I bought from CC for $30 does just what I wanted it to do. Playback DVD's. Easy to set up, load a DVD, and press 'PLAY'. If you are not into fancy features, this is the one for you

Strengths: Philips name, plays multiple formats, tiny design

Weaknesses: None so far

Summary: Philips invented the DVD make this wonderfully small, well designed player with those of us in mind, who do not use traditional multi-media channels; it will play all manner of formats, and do it well.I would recommend this little player to anyone, because it is small, reliable and will play most anything you put in it.I am very happy with this purchase!

Strengths: Intuitive menu, compact size, large range of supported media.

Weaknesses: Thin tray, no S-video, a little noisy when switching between titles.

Summary: This product completely fulfilled my desire for a streamlined progressive DVD player for use with my LCD TV. Other than a slight misunderstanding when it came to using the subtitles button on the remote (my fault--a proper description is in the manual), setup and viewing of my first DVD was a snap. The only major criticism I can offer is there was a little bit of noise from the player when jumping to the bonus material on the DVD, but considering how quietly the player ran during the movie, I'd hardly say that was a problem. For anyone who doesn't require HD upconversion and is looking for an inexpensive, yet powerful DVD player, this is a great buy.

Strengths: 1)Its price. 2)Simple to handle and play. 3)slim body.

Weaknesses: 1)Remote control looks cheap and hard to handle. Also, there is no eject button in the remote control. 2)It doesn't read WMV files.

Summary: I recomment this dvd player, if you cheap and more or less good player. This player is easy to handle and so slim. However, its remote control is not particularly good, but you sould think of its price!

Strengths: 1. Does what it's supposed to do and does it well.2. thin3. great price!

Weaknesses: 1. noticeable noise (in a quiet room) when starting up and reading the disc, (but completely quiet during movie)2. using the skip chapter forward/back button to fwd/rewind takes getting used to

Summary: It's a good player that simply put, plays dvds. Using the skip chapter buttons to move forward/rewind through the chapter takes a little bit of finger skill (release the button too fast and it skips the chapter; hold down the button too long and it goes to 32x fwd/rwd). This just takes getting used to, nothing too difficult unless finger dexterity is a problem for you.I previously used my xbox360 to watch my dvds but I thought I'd extend the life of my xbox360 by investing in a dedicated dvd player. For $25, this is player works well and I have no complains.Note: The player is made to only read dvd from U.S. and Canada, but there is a very simple (takes 10secs) procedure to unlock it to read dvds from anywhere.borrowed from post in amazon (by Tepavicharov):1. Make sure there is no disc in the player.2. Turn power off and on again.3. Open the tray.4. On the remote, hit 9879 and then 0 (This changes unit to Region 0, meaning it'll play all regions.) The screen will display a massage 5. Hit OK on the remote.

Strengths: Sleek design, slim, Divx, Philips brand

Weaknesses: Remote is not great

Summary: This is a nice DVD player for those who are not interested in to many frills in the player and want an inexpensive player to play the DVDs burnt on home computers. The low price, Divx support, and Philips brand have been the deciding factors for the purchase. I have used Philips products earlier as well and overall I am very happy with their products. This player has a thin design and easily fits in my compact TV stand. The remote is not the best that I have seen, but a universal remote can always be used to avoid the problem and to avoid using multiple remotes. Picture quality is good. For $30 you cannot expect a lot. Not for those looking for high profile HD performance.

Strengths: 1-Plays a variety of formats and CD. Those that I have tested are (MP3,WMA,Audio CD,CD R/W,DivX,DVD-/+R/W,SVCD,VCD).2- It's slick and slim3- In expensive

Weaknesses: 1- Produces loud noise when skipping a track2- FForward is slow and noisy

Summary: I bought the DVP3140 from circutcity.com for $31.49 after S/H/T. I wanted a DVD player capable of playing DivX movies. I watch DivX Files very much, so playing such files was important for me. So far it has done a good job on playing these movies. On the picture quality side, it is sort of comparable to my HD channels on Comcast. It has a coaxial digital audio out for connecting to Home Theaters. Don't ask more for this price. It really Worth it. Go for it.
