Strengths: Great picture when it works on HDMI Component. It works great on Component. Lots of hook-ups for audio for plasmas.
Weaknesses: Bugs! Sound or Video can cut out you have to disconnect the wires. HDMI quirks: It hates Samsung HPS5053 HPT-5054 HDMI circuits. Runs fine on Sony KE42M1 Hitachi P50H401.
Summary: HDMI compatibility issues! Samsung's HDMI plasma 2006 2007 have major issues. Samsung said their HDMI won't play Toshiba upconverts. They play fine on their component circuits. However, their own BDP1200 would not play on 4-different units from Best Buy which played perfectly on the above Sony Hitachi. Three tech's could not get them to work even after changing the Samsung 5053 boards. Samsung just said they were all defective. It is not just the unit it is the Samsung plasma HDMI circuit issue's with the unit. Best Buy had a cart full today of returned Toshiba Upconverts that would not play HDMI on Samsung TV's. I took back 2-Samsung plasma's that had defective HDMI's 4-BDP1200's that were defective. Yes, they are very buggy with no firmware fix yet! I saw a dozen returns at my local Best Buy's. But they work on component except the open/eject multiple push issue the out of video cync/freeze issues. I took back the HPS5053 HPT-5054 when Samsung's only evaluations of the problem was to say the bdp-1200 was bad when it ran on other units. I bought the Hitachi P50H401 after I took my Toshiba sd5000 bdp1200 to Best Buy confirmed that the run on this almost 1080P Hitachi on HDMI. These are the same units that 3-tech's talking to Samsung said were defective. I love the picture when it works, but it can get a little old to have to start it with no wires and slam the HDMI into it and do it to the sound when it gets out of cync. I have had a Blu-ray movie stop the picture at the menu and play the movie with sound only on two disks running on HDMI component. Pulling the video re-inserting it after a few seconds with the movie running or stopped had got it going. THIS UNIT NEEDS A FIRMWARE FIX OR A RE-PROGRAMING OF THE REMOTE SO THE BUTTONS DO WHAT YOU TELL THEM TO DO THE FIRST TIME. I am looking for a better unit the Sony is just not as good of a picture as this unit when it works.

Strengths: Quality picture is excellent; what an improvement from upconverting dvd player, easy to set up and it can be set up to control your TV. Remote control has most of the features that my Samsung TV.
Weaknesses: A little bit pricey if compare with some of the HD-DVD units available right now although
Summary: I would strongly recommend this product if you love watching good quality movies. It is a lot better than the upconverting dvd player which usually are less than half of the price of a blu ray dvd player. The increase in quality picture is amazing.

Strengths: Good picture-but it's bluray, it's supposed to have a good pic
Weaknesses: everything
Summary: I bought this abomination, inserted a dvd disc and the first thing it did was close the tray and lock it. No amount of power on or power off resets would open it. I'm waiting for the Panny bdp-50
