Strengths: Superb Picture Quality! Superb Sound! Easy HDMI Hookup!
Weaknesses: None.
Summary: Been using my BD-P1400 about three weeks now. Viewing Standard DVD's upconverted is excellent. Blu-Ray movies are stunning in picture quality and sound. Loading times are very acceptable. Hoping this unit is as reliable as it is good - if so, I will be happier than a Pismo clam!

Strengths: Analoge 5.1 out in addition to digital coax. Upconverts well, fast to load, shap, crisp, clear picture
Weaknesses: Only came with RCA AV cables. . . would have liked to see component or HDMI cables bundled with it.
Summary: I've played both blu-ray and regular DVDs in this player. The sound out of the anaiog 5.1, the quality of the HDMI connection is superior to that of our DVD player. I have an older receiver that does not have a digital coax in, and I didn't want to shell out the $$ for a new receiver just yet, so the analog 5.1 was a great feature other blu-ray players lack. It can push a 1080P signal to your HDTV. I strongly recommend spending a few extra dollars on a quality HDMI cable, especially for such a high quality piece of equipment. I took the time to tweak the settings on the player and my TV and the picture is awesome. I have a video calibration disk on the way and I expect great things. The remote control is comfortable and easy to use. On screen menus (Only accessable when there are no disks in the drive) is intuitive and easy to navigate. This is an excellent choice for a blu-ray player and you certainly cannot go wrong with this unit. My only comment would be that Samsung should include some better quality cables . . at the very least Component video cables.

Strengths: Firmware updates, excellent picture quality, upscales SD-DVD better than expected, great audio.
Weaknesses: Prices needs to come down on these units to compete with HD-DVD.
Summary: One of the better choices out there for Blu-Ray. I updated the firmware right out of the box and it has played everything flawlessly. Blu-Ray movies look incredible and it does a better than expected job of upscaling SD-DVDs. Audio sounds just as impressive. You have a choice of either having the player decode the new audio codecs (PCM)or have the audio sent to your A/V Receiver (Bitstream) to be decoded. Hopefully Blu-Ray prices will soon follow HD-DVD prices and these players will become more affordable.

Strengths: Fantastic picture with a 1080p LCD, faster loading times that with other high definition disc (HDDVD/Blu-ray) players, nice aesthetics
Weaknesses: Loading times still somewhat slow, some adjustments needed to make signal pass through A/V receiver, dim display
Summary: This player provides a fantastic picture, 1080p looks amazing. The player is also a nice looking player and not as big and boxy as some of the older blu-ray (Sony) players. The picture with standard DVDs also looks great. Once set up properly the picure cannot be beat. There were some problems setting up the player though, it seems it needs to detect a supported device for it to output 1080p. To do this I had to enable HDMI control on my TV to override the receiver. It seems it wont output 1080p if it detects a receiver and not a TV. This means that if my TV isn't on before I turn the player on it reverts to 1080i and I have to re-enable it in the menu. Also, the display on the front of the player is very dim and it is very difficult to read when the room is not totally dark.

Strengths: Good Picture
Weaknesses: Won't play some Blu-Ray Disks
Summary: I've gone through 2 Die Hard disks and the player just locks up. I've downloaded new firmware without any luck. Looking at some forums, everyone is having these problems with certain disks. It is hard to believe that Samsung would release a player that doesn't work with all the movies and that an upgrade to the firmware doesn't take care of the problem. DON'T BY THIS PLAYER!

Strengths: Quality picture
Weaknesses: build quality lacking
Summary: I set up the player and it performed well until I rented Trapped on blu-ray. When I loaded the disc it displayed a screen indicating the disc would not play without a software upgrade. I plugged in a phone-line and did a firmware upgrade. I then attempted to play the movie a second time whereupon the the tray lock up and no amount of resets would get it open.I was so disgusted I took out my revenge by destroying it with a sledge hammer and then tossing it into the dumpster. When they build a real blu-ray player for under $200.00 I'll think about buying another one.

Strengths: - Relatively affordable- 1080P Output- Decodes new audio formats and outputs via LPCM
Weaknesses: - Requires frequent firmware upgrades to play certain movies- Slow load times
Summary: For the price this player is OK. I have purchased many Samsung products in the past, including other BD players and TVs. This will probably be my last. Their build quality and performance standards just aren't acceptable for the investment. Overall I am fairly satisfied with this unit though. I have it paired with a Sammy 50" 1080P DLP, H/K AVR 247, and Infinity Primus speakers. The unit's performance in this setup is very good (after firmware upgrades). With those firmware updates it has played everything that I have thrown at it (after long load times). Make sure that if you buy a Sammy BD player that you get the 1400 or later, as the 1000 and 1200 are terrible (personal experience).

Strengths: Great Picture easy to setup, you can update the firmware on this one.
Weaknesses: noneUPDATE: 3 weeks later only plays blue ray DVDs, won't play standard DVD or even a CD. Samsung says send it them to be fixed.
Summary: Picture looks fantastic. Sound is dolby digital. I've put 3 new blue ray discs in, and all of them have worked, and so have the old standard DVDs. Firmware can be updated through an ethernet connection for future Blue Ray formats, and any potential problems. Easy to use. UPDATE: 3 weeks later only plays blue ray DVDs, won't play standard DVDs or even a CD. Also will not reconnect to the network. Samsung says send it them to be fixed. They didn't even want to pay to ship it to them, so I had to call them back for that and complain once I received the email. At this point this gets an unacceptable rating I am out a DVD player for at least 3-4 weeks which will include shipping it to New Jersey, plus over $300 on a DVD player that's already failed once. I hope it continues to work after they send it back.

Weaknesses: Poor build quality
Summary: I bought one of these players and couldnt wait to set it up. I got it home and immediatley unwrapped it. I set it up and switched it on. I first tried the film "300" and it played. I switched to off and then placed it neatly amounst my other players. I was disapointed to see that upon switching it on for a second time, the player "froze" and displayed "loading". I turned it on and off hopeing the player would sort itself out. NO! It didnt. Each time the samsung screen displayed and the player said loading. Nothing happened. I let it load several times for up to 20mins. Still nothing. I even tried other films just in case it was the film error and not the player. Still nothing. Dont buy this product. Too many problems noted by other users.

Weaknesses: Need to upgrade firmware out of the box, a task that is difficult for some folks.
Summary: very good price, player does a fantastic job with blu-ray, a very good job with regular dvd. Be aware that to create the firmware update cd you must be able to burn an iso file. Other than that, a wonderful player. Energy saving feature comes on sooner than I like. I have gotten very good support from Samsung on the phone.

Summary: Being a huge film buff, I was excited to finally upgrade to Blu-Ray and collect high definition titles. What a disaster it's been since buying this product. Literally, from the first day, I had problems with skipping, pausing and not playing Blu-Rays. After two firmware updates it still didn't work, so I sent it to the shop in NJ where they fixed the problem. It worked well for 90 days, now won't play Blu-Rays at all. so, once again it's back in the shop where they have ordered parts and I'm waiting to see if they can fix it. I've been on the phone with technicians 10 times and all have agreed that they provide more technical support on this product than any other. It's loud, slow, unreliable and a major disappointment. Save yourself the headaches and frustrations and do not buy this player...

Strengths: nice picture (if working)
Weaknesses: Locks Up - can not retrieve discs
Summary: I want my Iron Man DVD back. It is inside and it won't come out! Help! Been using this plaver on about 12 other discs - no big problems - though slow to load and loud (bearable, barely). Picture is good when it works - noticed I can't access all menu items. Was not aware I had to update firmware. Thought I would have a working player for $369. Imagine that was too much to expect. Now I can't even update firmware because locked up. Tried everything (short of sledgehammer). Have tried to contact customer service - NO HELP there! Do not buy SAMSUNG.
