Strengths: Several

Weaknesses: Compatibility problem with Window's Vista 64 Bit.

Summary: The Vista compatibility problem seems to lie with Microsoft, as I had many problems with their Vista 64 bit platform before going back to Windows XP. The HP Officejet Pro L7780 All-in-One Printer is a great functioning peripheral but not for the novice computer user. Rely on the Professional revues if you are considering buying this item, as I have read many bad reviews from users that just aren't accurate. This is my third HP All-In-One and they just keep getting better. By the way, the wireless works fine - you just have to know how to hook it up!

Summary: Printer L7780 Install ? A month or more out of my life 1. The CD was bad, received error 1335, then fatal error, programs uninstalled automatically. 2. Accessed web site, downloaded install and everything appeared to work, however, every time the PC was re-booted, it deleted and re-added the printers and drivers, creating an extra copy and making the old copy off-line. That meant in order to use the printer, the end-user had to either change the new printer to be off-line and make the first one active again???or they had to set up the application to go to the new copy. Not at all practical or user-friendly. 3. I spoke to an HP technician via online chat (Session ID 265765). They had me go to HP Cue Device Discovery Service and change it to manual; and attempt to install a Critical Update that came back with a ?not needed? message. This technician said this should take care of the problem. It did not. 4. I spoke with another HP technician and told them to read the information from the previous chat. This person had me execute a level 3 uninstall using the CD. Then they directed me to install from a download for a J6480 printer. The technician told me if this did not resolve the issue, it would be forwarded to the next level. When I saw the download was for another printer, I did not install it???. Instead I got back online with HP. 5. This next technician gave me the L7780 download page (Session 267127) and stayed online while I did the download. The problem was, not all of the information from the previous install had been uninstalled, so the install did not work correctly. There was no HP Solution Center, and there was no fax printer/driver defined on the PC. So the technician told me to use the CD that came with the printer and select the ?Add more software? feature. There was nothing called ?Add more software?, so they told me to just click on Install and it would only install the additional features. Not so! It started reinstalling everything and then got the same error that I received when I used the CD in the first place. Error 1335, then a fatal error. Supposedly the programs were uninstalled automatically yet again. And yet, there seems to be something that it always leaves on the PC. Image THAT! Something that doesn?t work like it is supposed to. Heavens NO, that cannot be. 6. I then got back online and spoke with yet another HP technician (Session 268301). They told me to go to the web site for the 1335 and follow those instructions. Since I had already done that, I told him I was not going to blindly follow the same instructions I had been given 4 weeks ago. I have spent over 80 hours trying to install the printer already. I said the technician I spoke with in step 4, above, had said the problem would be elevated to the next level if their recommended fix did not work. I asked, ?When does the escalation happen?? This technician did not reply to my question, but instead wanted me to install the basic driver. I could not take any more, so I ended the conversation for the night. That technician followed up the online chat with an email, telling me how to uninstall and reinstall manually. 7. I followed those instructions, taking several more hours, and ended up in the same place I had been. The printer prints, the fax faxes, the copier copies???..BUT there is no HP Solution Center on the PC and there is no Fax printer/driver defined on the PC. 8. I got back online and spoke with yet another HP technician (no new session ID for this one). Even though I told him repeatedly the HP Solution Center was NOT defined, he kept on telling me to go select it. Next he wanted me to go through the manual uninstall and reinstall again. I told him I had done it about 7 times already and asked why the 8th time would work. He finally said he would forward the issue to a higher level and they would get back to me in 2-3 business days. So here I sit, waiting on the 3rd business day (It is Wednesday. I reported the problem on Sunday, so this is the 3rd business day, right?) and still no call! But wait, they do have 12 minutes left in the ?window? to call me. 9. During this time I also spoke with a Staples representative (where the printer was purchased), and they ended up telling me I would have to wait for HP to solve it; and an independent Guru that said he could fix it in 15 minutes, but it would take him 2 hours or more to tell me how to fix it! GRRRRRRRRRRRRR! He will be available on Saturday, so we will see. Bless his heart if he can solve it and HP cannot.

Strengths: nice print qualityone of the best cost per page for an inkjet

Weaknesses: does not work reliabily, incompatible with MS Office 2007 (cuts off end of MS Word documents and forgets to print first columns in MS Excel spreadsheets)

Summary: HP customer assistance tries their best but the drivers for this printer are defective. It just does not work reliably. As best I can tell this printer is incompatible with MS Office 2007 (cuts off end of MS Word documents and forgets to print first columns in MS Excel spreadsheets). ONE of the LEVEL 2 tech support folks confirmed this. I have spent hours upon hours trying to make this thing work reliably without success. Periodically it just decides to stop working. Save yourself the headaches. While this is suppose to be a fully network capable AIO it just does not work that way. When I have network problems Hp blames it on everything except their printer. I have installed/uninstalled the drivers for this thing dozens of times. By the way, you don't just uninstall. You have to go in and do some editing to get all of its bits an pieces out of your system. Great potential, poor delivery

Weaknesses: DOES NOT HOOK UP TO A WIRELESS ROUTER

Summary: I purchased this printer because I was told that it was designed for a high volume office. I was also told by a Staples employee that this was the best printer they had. I am now on my 4th printer in one week. The first 3 printers froze up when I tried to connect the wireless up. The 4th is a different printer all together. I later found out by troubleshooting the problem that this has happened to most of these printers and hp knows about it and is still selling them. HP tech support told us to update our router firmware, which we did...still nothing. Please spare yourself the trouble that I went through and don't buy from a company that knowingly sells a product that is inoperable. Strengths: Fully loaded printer with all imaginable features.

Weaknesses: Just a couple

Summary: Overall, I can enthusiastically recommend the HP OfficeJet L7780 All-In-One printer, fax, scanner, copier. It's super fast, the print quality is excellent, and economical to operate. According HP it'll cost about 1.5 cents for a black page and around 6 cents for color pages, depending on the complexity. The direct photo printing capabilities are great for both office and home user, and if you do a lot of printing, or if you need to print two-sided copies then this is a fabulous machine. The wireless capability and digital filing are just the icing on the cake for me. On the other hand, there are some potential drawbacks. The photo menu is not always intuitive, and some of the options could be re-arranged to fix this. I've also once experienced a false alarm paper jam when doing a large print job. For instance, one time while a large document was printing, after the first 7 pages or so, the machine stopped printing and said that the printer had a jam. So I checked to see where it was and there was nothing to be found that could have caused a jam. So then I had to restart the job and everything went smooth from then on. Hopefully, I never got this false alarm ever again. This machine is great and I highly recommend it.

I gues that is to be suspected as their phone systen does not work well either. The ink cartridges all blew up after 12 copies. The document feeder is cheency. Strengths: Well featured All in One printer.Junk Fax Blocker.High volume paper storage.

Weaknesses: Significant "out of the box" assembly.Front panel assembly can result in switch buttons becoming trapped.Takes about 10 minutes to go through its power up routine.

Summary: In general I am very happy with HP Officejet Pro L7780. When I initially assembled it out of the box, attaching the front panel plate resulted in one of the switch buttons becoming trapped and therefore mis-operation - it took me about 30 minutes to find the cause. The printer is fast and economical (the cost of genuine HP ink is reasonable). One irritation is the time it takes (each time) the printer is powered up to go through its test routine - about 10 minutes. In the 2 months that I have had the printer it has locked up 3 times, requiring a power reset. Also twice during a print run, it interrupted the print run to carry out some kind of internal test ( about 5 minutes). The junk fax blocker is excellent.

Strengths: Copies, faxes, Prints, Scans

Weaknesses: Tractor feeder.

Summary: When item was first received, the product seemed to have difficulty with regards to the tractor feed so the item had to be returned for a replacement. The tractor appears to be the weakest part of the machine. If you feed more than 5 pages, one of those pages will eventually piggy back off another. Also, there is a risk of damaging the document if it is not perfectly lined up on the feeder, I've had a few originals eatten. The software installation won't install the scanner and after contacting customer support it appears that I'll need to do some registry editing so that I can do a fresh install. Simply removing it from the control panel doesn't clean everything up.

Strengths: it works

Weaknesses: no fax receipt w/ content

Summary: I've had the unit for 3 months. Two complaints (everything else is ok by me). 1. The fax machine can print a receipt but it can not print a receipt that shows a portion of the faxed document. It only shows the date, time, pages and phone number. Not the fax's content or a portion thereof. Hence, you have NO WAY of proving the content of a fax. After decades of fax machines being around, how a company can not include this is beyond me. If you need to prove anything was ever faxed DO NOT PURCHASE THIS. IN FACT, THIS MAY BE A PROBLEM WITH THE WHOLE LINE. MAKE SURE YOU CHECK! Second, it's loud when printing....Everything else has been what I expected.

Strengths: Hardware setup was straight forward.

Weaknesses: Unable to install workstation software.

Summary: The software installation was performed 7 times on 4 different XP PC's both with and without HP Tech Support. Each Installation resulted in a different error for each PC. HP Tech Support came in remotely and did an installation and got the same error. They then said it was a bad Software CD and had me download 300 meg of new software which when used resulted in exactly the same errors. At this point we had spent more on the installation than the printer cost. We returned the printer.
