Strengths: performance, price, portability, loaded for internet, bluetooth connectivity, storage

Weaknesses: touchpad, Shift keys, thick battery

Summary: the new 1000H with 6 cell and XP home is nice overall for those who are accustomed to Intel single core type performance. The very good screen is on par with many laptops since the onset of the hi-res era. The battery in place makes the rear (or frnt for many) of the laptop --right under the flip-out LCD-- bulge down thicker: not very elegant. The veritable annoyance is the R-shift key placement (which requires tweaking w/ sofware to remap R-shft and Up-arrow key), too far to the right, especially for those who type fast and frequently. For big hands, your thumbs might hit some part of the sensitive touchpad while you type, and this triggers relocation on the curser within your typed string (you might want to pay more visual attention to your string). If you are not willing to wait out until Asus fixes this KB issue(s), go ahead bc this is a very good performing machine, albeit not so extra-thin & extra-light. I doubt that the KB issue would enable me to give it more than 4.5 stars. 4 stars realistically or maybe 4 1/2, mostly bc of its price ... but barely. PS: for those interested, download "Elantech" touch pad software 7.0.3.8 to enable disabling of touchpad when typing; and download "Keytweak" software to swap your R-shift and up-arrow keys (then do the physical swap on the KB)

Strengths: Easy to upgrade ram and hard drive, fast and light.

Weaknesses: Right shift key placement, stiff mouse buttons.

Summary: I compared all the netbooks available on the market before deciding on this one. Some have SSDs soldered to the mainboard - this has SATA which is behind an easy to access panel on the botom - win. Some have memory which you need to disassemble the netbook to upgrade, and some soldered on - this has easy to access panel on the bottom to swap out memory - win. This one has wireless N and I don't think any other models out there do. It came standard with a 6 cell battery at a reasonable price. So far I'm just trying to get used to the right shift key placement, and I really need to get a bluetooth mouse so I don't have to use those stiff touchpad click buttons. This is a great machine for e-mails, surfing, chatting, and web-based games!

Strengths: size, battery life, XP home installed

Weaknesses: None

Summary: I read every review on this laptop and several competitors before buying this and I know I made the right choice. It is the PERFECT size, small enough to carry everywhere but big enough that the keyboard feels comfortable for extended use. The display is crystal clear, much better than I expected. The battery life seems to average 6 hours, not as advertised, but excellent. I upgraded the ram to 2 gb with a Kingston module, it didn't make much of a difference in performance, but I wanted it maxed out. Upgrades are easy, there is a convenient access door on the bottom of the machine. I highly recommend this laptop, with Newegg, it cost me just 530 bucks with free shipping on one of their daily specials.

Strengths: Good screen size, full functionality, speedy performance

Weaknesses: A little heavy, takes time to get use to use the touchpad, less than 7 hours usage on a full charge

Summary: This laptop is the best buy of the year, at least for me. In a couple of months, the price may go even lower. But even for the present price range, this laptop will provide you all the essential elements of a travel notebook. Its size is easy on packing, its functality will get you all the work done (i.e. online surfing, movie watching, composition writing, etc, etc.) The one minor problem I mostly concerned is the display resolution setting; it is either not high enough or too high that needed to scroll up and down. A future patch may correct that.

Strengths: Size, weight, speed, screen, keyboard, and everything!

Weaknesses: Right-shift key is in the wrong place.

Summary: Purchased an new Eee PC 1000h from Mwave on 4 Aug 08. Paid $574.98 including 2-day Air Shipping since we were leaving on a trip soon. I received the netbook on 6 Aug! That's pretty quick. I ordered this from Mwave because almost every other dealer was out of stock. I have dealt with Mwave before and they were excellent then and doublely so now.The 1000h meets all my expectations and then some. I was almost going to order an MSI Wind but read a few more reviews and comparisons and at the last moment changed my mind and bought the Eee PC 1000h. I have a wireless-N network at home and wanted to use that and I wanted the 6 cell battery which the Wind doesn't have right now. Additionally, I think the Wind will be higher priced with a 6 cell battery. The battery slides into place and locks down. It is just an example of how well this PC is made. The battery doesn't move once you've locked it in place. There are no squeaks or rattles any where on this machine. The USB ports are tight so when you plug something in, it certainly won't fall out. I have a WD 320GB external hard drive plugged into one of the USB ports and it is very responsive. The Eee PC 1000h is very well built. It's not as heavy as I expected but it does feel very solid. The screen is very bright right out of the box. I haven't made any adjustments to the screen since I got it. The keyboard feels very responsive and I don't notice any flex at all. I am disappointed with the placement of the right-shift-key and the up-arrow-key. The right-shift-key is was out to the right and it is awkward to hit it correctly when touch typing. I found a program that does key mapping and have swapped the up-arrow-key with the right-shift-key and now it is working much better. Still, they could have made the right-shift-key larger and put it in the right place without too much trouble. The case is glossy and does really show finger prints but they did include a cloth to wipe it down with. There is a drivers CD included and a spongy black cover for the PC. The box includes a users manual, a warranty card, and a Microsoft Works authentication card (not a CD). I was disappointed that they didn't include a WinXP CD. Overall, this is a great machine for surfing the web and checking E-mails. It really can do a lot more than that, much more but I haven't had the time to put it through it's paces. I have done some video (YouTube) and those work just perfectly. This is a real snappy machine especially when plugged in. I am very satisfied with my purchase and think this will be with me for a long time.

Strengths: Just to preface this. I am a normal person... loves computers and did my research and wanted this or the MSI Wind. Love the computer and wanted to plug mwave for such a quick purchase.

Weaknesses: Different moving from a full size laptop. Have had some issues with updating the BIOS from their site, which I'm working on, but nothing that has stopped it from working.

Summary: ASUS eee pc 1000h has been a nice surprise. Expected a few speed bumps in regards to its functioning, but pleasantly surprised by its functioning in XP. Got used to a dragging out phase with Vista... good to get back up to speed. Don't expect a powerhouse computer, but it is was it was meant to be, a very portable computer that surfs the web well, bluetooth capabilities a plus and sufficient power for my purposes.
