Strengths: light/250GB

Weaknesses: plastic case, not metal case

Summary: I have been using it to do the regular backup for two months. I divided it into two parts and both are in NTSF format. It works well. quiet but slow. Though it looks pretty in black, I prefer the metal case than the plastic one. it has three year warranty.

Strengths: Surprisingly feather weight light, noiseless, sleek design, decent speed, ready to use, works on both PCs and MACs, works with just a USB 2 cable and no need for a power supply

Weaknesses: USB cable too short (barely 8 inches long). Could have included a simple case or pouch, dust clings to the surface of the hard drive. The physical quality feels a little cheap, plastic.

Summary: Very impressive hard drive for its size and capacity. I bought this hard drive mainly to keep my files backed up and portable. I'm very happy with the syncing program that is already set up in the hard drive which does more than just keep files up to date, such as password protecting and folder options. The cable is definitely way too short as many have already commented. I've resorted to using my camera's USB 2 cable which works just fine.

Strengths: Reliable, reasonably priced.

Weaknesses: Cable is short.

Summary: It's one of the most inexpensive 2.5 external hard drive in the market. I have 3 other small WD passport drives and they all work decently well. CON: One of my previous drive (120 GB) was substantially slowed when the free memory was downed to 10 GB. I would be careful to leave this drive to have at least 20GB of free space.

Strengths: Compact, 250GB, reasonable price

Weaknesses: Shiny exterior easy to scratch

Summary: This is a wonderful product. The hard drive is a big 250GB so you can store a lot of music and photos on it. The size is very compact; I couldn't believe how small it was, and lightweight. Perfect for transporting files from work to home. I no longer have to lug my computer back-and-forth. A carrying case does not come with the Passport but I'd recommend it to keep the surface from scratching. It comes with a USB cord that some feel is too short but it hasn't been a problem for me. You can also buy a separate cord to boost the USB capability if your computer can't handle the HD but my 4 year old laptop is compatible. The price is reasonable especially if you can find it on sale and now it comes in colors other than black.

Strengths: Fast, quiet and cool

Weaknesses: none

Summary: I got it for a good price. The drive runs fast, quiet and cool. I wish it could come with 5 year warranty like seagate. Inside is a 8MB cahse sata 2.5" hard drive. Somebody took it out and put it into laptop. It is much cheaper than any internal 250gb hard drive.

Strengths: Very easy to the eyes.

Weaknesses: 5400RPM may be too slow for some.

Summary: Western Digital produced an excellent line of portable hard drives. Now that it is 250GB. There is no reason to get a lesser capacity hard drive. Worked flawlessly with Windows XP. You can easily fit this in your laptop bag. Very light weight. The only complaint is that it is a 5400RPM. However, since it is a portable usb hard drive, I do not expect it to be as fast as my internal pc hard drive. Highly recommended.

Strengths: Extremely portable. You can fit it in your shirt pocket.

Weaknesses: Easy to get the cover scratched.

Summary: For a portable external hard drive, this may be the best one out there for its capacity. It looks very slick and works flawlessly. Since it is USB 2.0, do not expect the transfer rate to be as fast as your internal hardrive. I did not experience any compatibility issues with XP. It is pretty much plug and transfer. This product is great for those who require backup for their laptop or to bring large files on the go.

Strengths: thin, easy to carry, usb powered

Weaknesses: cheap material, scratch easily

Summary: Great drive! USB powered! The design is cool. The only minus is the case material (cheap shiny plastic, very easy to get scratches) Very quiet to operate. the price is good also.

Strengths: Small, powered thru USB, lots of gigs for the money.

Weaknesses: Glossy black finish shows every fingerprint.

Summary: This is a great deal for the money for a quality hard drive. I purchased a WD Passport 120 gig for $10 more than this 250 gig hard drive 14 months ago. Although the silver finish was easier to keep clean(no fingerprints)than this glossy black finish on the 250, you can't beat it for the price.

Strengths: Very thin, and light for such a high capacity. Noiseless operation.

Weaknesses: Short USB cable, but while traveling its an advantage.

Summary: Its very light and thin for such a high capacity. Noiseless. Has 2MB buffer memory for faster transfer. Has a flap on the USB port to keep it clean.250GB and 160GB does not have huge cost difference so I ended up with this one instead of 160GB for which I was planning. Works well with my NAS (Linksys NLSU2). I formatted in EXT3 format and it is working perfectly.I am using it primarily to keep my Photos and sync this up with bigger hard disk I have attached to the Network storage device.I also considered Seagate Freeagent but was costly over this one, but this gave the same advantages. Only difference I know is that this has 3 year warranty and Freeagent has 5 years warranty.

Strengths: Huge storage space and fast I/O access, light and sleek

Weaknesses: cable is quite short

Summary: I have been looking for large, light, and portable storagedevice like this one. Compared with my previous 40 GB 4200 rpm device, it is much faster and i have no worry about reaching limit so far. When I copied some large files, and use window's defragement util to defrag it, it is really quick!

Strengths: Ultra small for such a large 250GB capacity.

Weaknesses: USB cable is too short.

Summary: Compact, fast and quite. It's hard to believe that they get that much storage on a drive that fits in a shirt pocket. Plastic casing is fragile. Overall I'm very happy with this portable HD.

Strengths: very lighthighest available capacity at the timeno power cable neededautomatic sync software included

Weaknesses: glossy finish showcases fingerprints

Summary: Great drive, at the time of this writing (08/29/07), 250GB is the highest capacity for an external 2.5" hard drive, as far as I could find. I was concerned that my laptop would not provide enough power for this drive, but it turned out there is no problem whatsoever. Some of my friends say it gives trouble with Linux (Fedora), but I have not tried yet. Also, compared to other drives of this size, it is very light. The only problem really seems that the glossy finish attracts dust and fingerprints, but then again, I didn't buy this for show! :-)

Strengths: Small. Huge capacity. 3 Year warranty.

Weaknesses: --

Summary: I'm very happy with this 250GB small hard drive. It's still working great after I left this hard drive connected with my laptop for 5 days. (which I think it is normal usage.)Base on WD warranty policy, this hard drive is covered by 3-year warranty. The price is also reasonable. At the time I purchased, the price per GB is the same as that of 160GB model.
